The results of the 'Negative Image' challenge have been recalculated, as the image formerly in 15th place has been disqualified due to the photographer not providing their original image (accidentally overwritten). Congrats to Jaxsond for a top 20 finish and to SandyP for moving on to the MS Tournament finals. |

Not trying to stir a pot, but why was the original requested? Nothing looks improper to me or dq-worthyish.
Just wondering.
Sorry Courtenay, beautiful photo :(

I bet they thought the background had been touched up, cuz she did such a great job on it. |

Validation may be requested on any photo for any reason. In this case, the photographer was into the "money" rounds of the MS Tournament, and were told that their images would be validated. |

Makes sense - thanks Shannon!
As a question 'cause I'm dumb (and probably answered in a dozen other threads) if, during voting, I request a validation on a photo such as her's, does SC make a judgement call for the request or do all such requests immediately make for a validation call? (outside influences such as tourneys being nil)
Is that a coherent question? |

Just so it is clear, I did take the photo during challenge entry period I just never downloaded to my harddrive (edited on card) and then wrote over the original. I volunteered to have any previous or current challenge entry validated as I didn't want anyone to think I cheated.
For those who don't believe me, tonight I can go home and take an image of what is left of my entry - drooping, lifeless, taped together light yellow tulips against a black background. You see, I forget these kinds of simple things - downloading images, throwing away dead flowers...
Now I am marked. ARGH! But, my other current entries are scoring well, so I can still up my average, which has been my goal every week since January 1.
Apologies to everyone for wasting their time - especially the SC who were extremely kind and understanding. |

ALL validation requests go into the queue. Some of the requests are for "invalid" reasons (Does Not Meet the Challenge, Literal Artwork that isn't, etc.), and others are resolved by simply looking at the photographer's comments and/or details. If there are still questions, we'll request proof from the photographer. That DOESN'T mean anyone suspects cheating. Maybe we just want to see if a background was removed, or someone saw a similar shot last year...
If an image really does look suspicious and voters are expressing doubt, we'll inspect the original and add a note that the image has been validated. |

If it makes you feel better, I think Dairy Queen will now give you a discount. :)
Sorry again though :(
[my question was more of a run-of-the-mill-how's-sc-do-this-without-being-overwhelmed type question]
Edit:
Thanks again Shannon!

We believe you, Dahkota; it was sheer bad luck and an oops, which all of us have had. Yours just came at a bad time :( I still like the shot! |

That is so true!!! I am so sorry that happened Courtenay! It happened to me once too when I was out of town and couldn't get to my computer in time to provide the original. I bet aLOT of the dq's are for sad reasons like this and not because there was any foul play going on.

I take it this means Artan doesn't have an entry for the next round? Wouldn't Artan move up to battle SandyP in the semi-final? |

Good question. Terry?
But if Artan doesn't have an entry then I'll meet Sandy in the Finals ;) which is due Tuesday ;)

Then you should be taking on SandyP..
I hope CJ knows this, and everyone in here wasn't just getting ahead of themselves. |

I was looking at the Rules page for the MS Tournament
and rule 9 stated
9. If a participant does not enter a weekly challenge or that participant's entry is disqualified, during voting, that participant forfeits the tournament. In the event that two directly-competing entrants both forfeit, neither entrant will advance. A participant competing against a vacant slot is considered to have a âbyeâ and need not enter a photograph that week to advance. Entrants are solely responsible to submit their entries. Extensions will not be granted for any reason, including failure of the DPChallenge web site, or inability of any entrant or entrants to submit entries on a timely basis...

So I understand that to mean that Artan now goes against SandyP while Rikki has a bye. Is that correct?

Dahkota, just out of curiosity did you try using any kind of image/data recovery program on the card? I ran the one that came with one of my sandisk cards a while ago and it brought up pictures I'd deleted a long time ago. Might not matter now anyway, but it could be worth a shot. |

Yes. I found images from November of 2005 but none from last week. Considering that I only did 23 shots for that challenge (I'm a tweaker in the studio) they would have been at the beginning of the card. They were overwritten that Friday night when I shot the youth awards, again on Saturday night when I shot the old people celebration, and again on Sunday when I shot for my free study. I checked all my cards, my hard-drive just in case, under my desk, in my studio, and in my fridge. They were gone!
I did this once before with a studio flower shot - the Square Challenge - but managed to find it about a week later (I wanted to make a print). You figure I would have learned!
Congrats to Artan - he deserved to be there as much if not more than I. Good Luck to all and I look forward to seeing the winner! |
