He ONLY has a 5.9176 average, but has a whooping 23 ribbons and 6 Honorable Mentions. Endurance also...has entered 283 challenges!

No offense to the high average people, but jjbeguin is my role model.

Well what he should have done was just entered more DPC approved/safe choices like what some do to keep/build that average up and then take some risk once your average can handle it.

High scores are generally about image appeal. Water drops, dragonflies, flowers, sunsets, etc. are simply nice to look at, so lots of people shoot them and tend to vote them a little higher. That said, I shoot all kinds of subjects without a problem.

Hehe most definately, I would never flag you as a "crowd pleaser" just to get a good average, your stuff is always very imaginative and different.

I also think people shots generally do well, cause people like looking at other people. I have had a pretty good year so far, quickly calculated my average for this year is 6.5+ and of the 19 challenges I have entered, 14 of them are about the people in the photo, the other five splash photos or landscapes.

Um Dude your so far removed from that Cliche' shot group its not even funny. But you know there are others that do just the cliche' shots just for the high scores alone.

that's ok, too ... it's our mistake for voting them high

He really did that, was THAT the reason he quit?

He requested a self-DQ on his first entry, which had scored about a 6.1, I think. On his most recent entry, he posted in the forums that it wasn't doing as well as he'd hoped, and said that if it fell below 6, he would post his entry in the forums (knowing that wasn't allowed). It did, he did, and the post was hidden. He then requested a self-DQ on it. When we informed him that he already had a DQ in his last 25 entries and wasn't eligible for another request, he quit. Both were still respectable scores, so maybe he had other reasons and that was just a coincidence. Regardless, he was a darn good photographer.

The dude had talent for photography, no doubt about that. To bad he was immature in attitude. Its kinda like the analogy: What I hit an in field double and not a home run? Can we strike that one and let me bat again? No, well then Im taking my bat and ball and going home!

But unlike the baseball game, we get to go on without him. Hope we survive. ;)

Hope all are well...

Heh, speaking of people I wished had stuck around ; )

Yep and people will pay good money for a one trick pony, if the trick is good enough;)

Dang! Shannon ( Scalvert)...I've been trying to chase you down for a while. I didn't realize you had jumped up to 6.30. I have been stuck at the 6.22 mark for a while now. I'd move up and then get hit with a 5 something score and fall right back down.

Maybe I'll make that my 2007 goal. Pass Shannon in average vote...
