Originally posted by strangeghost: Shailesh and others, the Copperhill method seems to be the DPC concensus favorite for sensor cleaning. My advice would be to just go ahead and order the kit and do it. It seems scary but once you do it once, you realize it's not a big deal.
The GTG is not the place to do the cleaning, but the others in the group can reassure you that you CAN do it. |
K. You might be right, I won't bring the stuff. You probably should do that in a contamination free area, and not on a busy city street.
I got the stuff in the Copperhill method, but it was a kit (pec pads, eclipse and swabs) from another place... The Filter Connection and I added the Giotto Rocket blower. Shailesh, I will let you know how it goes.

You could bring your Rocket blower and try that for him just in case his cleaning kit doesn't arrive in time. It's a simple enough process that you could do indoors some place real quick that may help.

sorry I need to bail. Finals and work are eating my life right now and it doesn't look like it will stop until May 10. Five days after that I leave for a month of volunteer work (and photographing) in ecuador. Those 5 days I'll probably just catch my breath, but you all have fun!
If you stay at night might I suggest a big bonfire on the edge of the water near the Adler planetarium (just take 55 into the city and get off at the first exit towards soldier field) great view of the skyline and the police don't mind if you hang out down there. |

Thanks, Maya. I will let you know if I receive my kit before GTG. I bought camera in January, 2006. I don't really know how the dust really acuumulated so fast on the sensor. More surprising I have not shoot outside a lot yet. I am glad that I ordered the kit, looks like I will need to use it more. |

If anyone's coming from south of the city taking I-57, I suggest getting off at University Park, parking and taking the Metra in. It's soooo much easier especially now with the Dan Ryan a mess. It's $1 to park and $5 round trip weekend pass on the train. It stops two blocks from the Art Institute, which is nothing! |

BUMP...
It is this weekend guys! I sent reminders late last night. Hope you all got them. There was one mistake, I left off the last digit of John/strangeghosts' phone number. The last "7" is missing.
Cheers,
Maya |

Maya, I got my Sensor cleaning kit. I will clean the sensor before the GTG. You don't need to bring the blower for me. I am excited, can't wait. What a perfect timing for the open challenge - Night Shot III !!!

No, nothing planned for Sunday.
Shailesh - glad your stuff came in time. I have still not cleaned mine yet. I think that will be my Friday night mission! |

Definite out :(
I will be in Chicago Jun 3 - Jun 7 if anyone would like to do a gtg then (jun 3 is sat, 4 is sun).
Much less expensive getting there when works pays for the gas - sad times when a quick trip to the city costs so much (fyi - I am 400 miles north which, until the inflated gas prices, wasn't too far for a weekend trip). |

I'm still planning to come but it's looking like I'm only going to make it for the afternoon/evening. I'll bring the provided cell phone numbers with me and plan to rendezvous with the GTG group around suppertime and then stay for the NIGHTSHOTS! |

As far as I know I'll be in front of the Art Institute around 11 a.m. I'm catching the 9:57 Metra, which will get me yo Van Buren around 10:55, giving me 5 minutes to find you guys with the cameras on the steps. My husband may come along; we just got my backup D70 delivered today and he may want to try it out too. |

I don't know about that challenge but I'm game. Our GTG is during the morning and I don't know if anybody will be up to shooting during the night not to mention people are coming from out of town. |

Hey - Chicago,
They was talkin' trash 'bout us in the Toronto Thread towards the end, and we must defend our honor! I was trying to enjoy my lunch yesterday and just happened to glance at that thread and this is what I saw :-)

Chicago GTG |
A man was telling his co-worker one day that the company was transferring him to Chicago. He explained that he was going to quit before he had to move there.
When asked why, he replied that he was just too afraid of all the crime even though he would be passing up a big salary increase and greater benefits.
His co-worker said to reconsider and that Chicago was a magnificent city, with world class museums, loaded with a great history, close to Canada, good public transportation, etc.
Then he said: "Why I myself worked in Chicago for almost 10 years and in all that time I never ever had a problem with crime while I was working."
The first asked, "What did you do there?"
To which the other replied, "I was tail-gunner on a bread truck." |
I think the lines have been drawn in the sand, any ideas for this duel? Some ideas that would come to my mind are:
Architecture
Candids
Flora & Fauna

OK - let's start off with a lame one and build from there:
An Englishman, a Canadian and an American were captured by terrorists.
The terrorist leader said, "Before we shoot you, you will be allowed last words. Please let me know what you wish to talk about."
The Englishman replied, "I wish to speak of loyalty and service to the crown."
The Canadian replied, "Since you are involved in a question of national purpose, national identity, and secession, I wish to talk about the history of constitutional process in Canada, special status, distinct society and uniqueness within diversity."
The American replied, "Just shoot me before the Canadian starts talking."
:)

Not to make matters worse, but isn't Kentucky's GTG tomorrow as well? Could be a three-way (duel?)! |
