Gas prices are killing us. I've had to lower my prices lately simply because not many can afford luxuries such as personal photography right now when they are dumping so much money into thier cars.

In the end, it'll stablize. Either gas prices will fall back to acceptible levels or wages will increase. It's bond to happen.

Ride it out, man. And, you might have to take assignments you wouldn't normally want to do, but if ya stick to your guns, you'll be fine.

In the mean time:

You learn to love 'em :-)

LMAO! Actually, a guy contacted me yesterday about doing some porn... That can't be all bad, but it's not something I would normally take on due to the extenuating circumstances surrouding that. ;-) You are right. The gas is killing me over here, and I've scaled everything down to it's bare minimum. I was begining to think it was my pictures that didn't speak well for me, and that challenge that I entered the other day just killed my spirit, when I was certainly hoping for the opposite. Thanks for the encouragement.

lance, i just saw your apology, and thought i would drop you a note.

i don't have a clue as to who you are or what you're deal is, but you really need to get a hold of yourself. dpc is just one of 1000s of online communities, which in many ways are just like real-life communities. communities, while far from perfect, exist to let people work towards a common goal. some are leaders, some are followers, some are in between. some stay forever, some are just passing through. all the same, most of the time, the majority of the members are always working together. there will always be disagreements and squabbles, but it's how one conducts themselves during these times that makes a difference as to how they are accepted by the community when the dust settles. basically, no one likes it when somebody pisses in the pond we all have to drink from.

as far as a measure of ones photography, dpc is just one audience. you might read this thread for a reality check. dpc can be very helpful in many ways, but it is by no means the be-all-end-all. and, as with anything else, you only get out of it what you put into it. nothing is automatic, and nothing happens overnight. you can't just waltz in thinking you're God's gift to photography...

and, as for your business, well, if it's having a rough go, well, that's life. things come and go in cycles. there'll always be ups and downs. the thing to do when you're in a down cycle, though, is to dig in and make it work. the thing NOT to do is to lash out at everyone else.

so, all this being said, i hope things work out for you, wherever you may be, doing whatever it is you decide to do.

cheers,
skip

Thanks skip. I'm glad you posted it here cause I'm sort of banned from messaging, or anything else, until the 9th so I couldn't answer. Yes, it was terribly wrong for me to take it out on people, people that were not originally associated with my frustration directly. I do recall that you said some pretty hurtful things, but it doesn't matter. It's all water under the bridge. I probably will never enter a challenge, but I would love to offer any advice I could. I may not take decent pictures, but I have probably studied long enough to write a book. lol

Thank you for this mostly:

Lance.

sorry if you found any of my comments hurtful; i'm pretty laid back unless i'm responding to something or someone that appears way out of line. but hey, i'm far from perfect.

some people say character is who you are when no one's looking; i tend to think character is who people see when the chips are down...

I'd honestly like to sit here in my corner and mull it over for a while... I have said some pretty rude things to people that I shouldn't have, it's only fair.

If it will help at all, I would like to sincerely apologize to the people I made rude, and apauling, comments to. I have had a difficult time with my business lately, and the time that I thought I took a perfect photo, was the time when I would receive the worst scores from my challenges, so when I saw the scores I was devastated to the point of questioning whether I should really be in this business.

Furthermore, seeing the image in the left hand side of my screen every time I logged in was just a slap in the face to me. Aside from the rude comments that were made to me after the fact of the issues debut, some of you people voted your honest vote and I should not have taken it personally. I became highly frustrated when I could not remove the image from the site, and it all snowballed from there. Please accept my sincere apology, especially you mk.

Lance.

Apology accepted. And I apologize for also being a dink. Now we can be pals.

Hey Lance,

I sort-of followed this flap and got a sense of the anger that flared up. It really hurts me when people are in pain. Positive enery is being sent your way right now. Hope things get better for you soon.

Lance, as far as business goes, I too am in the same boat. My business is almost nonexsistence this year. I can't see why except everything is getting more expensive and my pay is going down. Just keep on shooting, and don't forget that we all have bad days and get less than great reviews.
