I'd like to thank The Academy............

Oh wait....wrong speech.

I'd like to take a moment to recognize some one who has taken the time to help me tremendously in so many ways. I met Elvis one day, shortly after his shift ended at the Kalamazoo Burger King. Since then, he has shown me so much about life and has become such a dear friend and mentor.

Thank you for that comment Kari..... I appriciated it so very much.....

I do believe we are all a team, helping and supporting each other whenever needed.

It started with Langdon & Drew, along with a great support council team, along with the members.

The quiet unknown member, is just as important as the more outspoken well known member.....

We are a team, some can do more than others, but that doesn't matter, as long as we are there for each other, we will always continue to grow.....

We are such a wonderful site and I for one, am very proud to be a small part of it.....

DPC is the one that needs the CONGRATULATIONS, as we are just the followers that make up the team, that helps to make DPC grow and prosper.

Each one of you deserves a "reward", or a "pat on the back", as if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't be who we are today.

I love you all, sherpet.....

There's heaps of great people who I've met that have all made the DPC experience so great but before going there, two people need a special mention - and they need to be honoured all by themselves...

Langdon

Drew ...

... take a bow! You guys had the vision and then the professionaism to keep your interest high and to keep growing DPC.

Not only is it a great place to be but it also
- Looks better than any other digital photog site
- Has the most amazing statistical features
- Keeps churning out interesting and fun challenges
- Maintains its integrity

Brilliant, just brilliant. I know you have SC help but I want to acknowledge along with everyone else that you guys created it and without you none of us would be having such a ball.

HHHHEEEEEYYYYYIIIII - What about me? I would like to thank myself for keeping myself entertained for plenty of nightshifts by seeing how far I can drive ShutterPug and Fotomann with the cheese and eloping episodes.
Fotomann stayed cool - don't always know about ShutterPug. She seemed more upset about the cheese business than the eloping episode.

Thanx you two - had some good LOL's. Then thanx to all the constructive critisim on my work (and not the lessons in the morality of underage drinking..._:-)

As I stated at the start of this thread, "There are many other people in this community I could praise for their contributions, or acknowledge just for "who they are", but I'd like to see other members step up here and do that."

Y'all are doing a great job doing just that.

Now I'd like to step back in and throw another few out, again asking you to remember I appreciate all of you (pretty much) and can't acknowledge you all, but:

I'd like to thank Ray Ethier for being a constant source of level-headed, common-sensical advice and commentary on all manner of contentious issues. Ray's not afraid to step in and point out what he considers fallacious reasoning or inaccurate reporting of facts, and thus serves as a very useful reality check on us all, but that's not the main thing; plenty of people do that. No, what I like about Ray is that he always does it in a gentlemanly manner, taking care to respect others' opinions even as he disagrees with them. He could be a role model for many of us who sometimes shoot from the hip.

And on the other side of the coin (so to speak) I have got to mention zeuszen, coincidentally another Canadian. It's not that he's "impractical" (for I consider him extremely well-grounded, actually) but rather that he's just about the most mystical of us all, always fascinating in his (unfortunately relatively rare) prnouncements, always leaving us with something to chew on until we manage to digest it. You got to love a place like this, where ZZ and Ray can exist in harmony.

Finally, while we're at it, yet another Canadian: let's give it up for our wonderfully contrarian Glen Justinen (artyste), who somehow manages to put enough shine on the concept "caustic" to keep it a legitimate element of our debates. I mean that seriously; Arty's always good for an eye-opener, he's not afraid to put his mouth where his sentiments are, and even when he ruffles feathers it's hard to doubt his sincerity and good will.

Is this a great place, or what?

Robt.

Aside from the fact that he's one of the few members I can feel young standing next to (he being 67 to my almost-60), I think Daniel's just a heck of a gentleman and a major force-for-good in DPC.

He gives selflessly of his time, particularly in comments and critiques. He's been a member for just shy of two years and he's made 13,000 comments! That's something in the neighborhood of 18 comments a day, and it's a stat I'm in awe of.

He never seems to get riled or upset even when he has a "right" to. He's forgotten more about good old traditional photography than most of us will ever learn, and he's selfless in sharing what he knows yet never seems to push himself on us. And to top it off, his critiques/advice always seem spot-on to me. Well, nearly always anyway :-)

Dan, I'm glad to have had the chance to get to "know" you here.

**************

There are many other people in this community I could praise for their contributions, or acknowledge just for "who they are", but I'd like to see other members step up here and do that: why don't YOU take the time to single out someone for praise and a simple "well done, friend!"?

Robt.

April 30 is my birthday and I was so filled with joy when I came across this thread: it was like a gift. Thanks to Robert and all you wonderful folks.

Like I said elsewhere, these last three weeks and this one finds me tending to my new boat with hardly anytime to shoot, let alone make comments. No time to even take advantage of the free study. Yes, I placed an image but at last minute with only one hour to shoot and edit. The rush has been so fast, that is getting the boat ready to sail, that the ideas just come and go but I am in no position to grasp them because of the time constraint. Like what would I do with them. It is like cathing a bird in the hand and watching it fly away as fast as it came. I can save some but the fun of DPC is that ideas must be timely.

So, while this thread makes me happy it also gives me a guilt feeling because all that I have been doing is simply voting with very little commenting. Wonderful images too which deserve all the comments they can get.

I also feel bad because I do want to extend my appreciation to many of you but I feel I must put it off until my return to normalcy and then I will be very behind. Have no fear, graphicfunk is lightning fast and I will return the goodwill displayed here.

A sailor does not function until his boat is spanking ready to go. be back soon.

Can we see some shots of the boat sailor?

That really perks my interest, and congrats.

I'd like to publicly state my appreciation of Harvey Wilcox (Coolhar) for his contributions to this site and. equally important, to MY persepctive on this site. It's no secret to any of you who follow the forums that Harvey and I rarely agree with each other in ongoing discussions, but I appreciate the hell out of this man even when I find myself irritated as hell by some of the things he says. I like how he always remains true to his ideals, and always remains level-headed in expressing them. I like how he gives me a frequent reality check on my own perspective. I like how DPC allows all of us to interact so constructively.

I appreciate Harvey, basically. I think he's a very good photographer and a decent, compassionate human being who remains true to his own ideals regardless of pressure from others to change.

A tip of the hat to you, Harv!

Robt.

Bear, I just now saw this thread and went through it. I too have had some VERY heated discussions with this coot. At times I was very angry by things that he would say. BUT I must admit, he is as passionate about the two things I hold as near to my heart as my family as I am. Photography and DPC. We may not agree, but I will always call him 'Friend'!

I 2nd (or 3rd) the motion to extend gratitude to Graphic Funk. Its my goal to receive one of his congratulations comments on my top twenty finish! His comments are always positive and insightful. He sees things others don't. Along with him BradP, Scalvert, Nico Blue and Librodo, amoungst many have inspired me, not only through their photos but through the level headedness of their participation in comments and forum posts. I'm content with the site and the community here,(I just renewed my membership) Last but not least,Every one who enters, votes or comments on the contests is vital to the site.

HUGE respect & gratitude for the contributions of: graphicfunk, bear_music, skiprow to the overall quality of this site!

And I put my torch & pitchfork down and give big hugs to: Jutilda, CalliopeKel, Suemack, Beetle, Lentil, idnic, Riponlady, Sherpet and others who have been very generous with their comments and just being fun to hang out with here.

I guess I could also say click on my favorites list for a list of many of the people I have come to appreciate, but the list is not all-inclusive. I must say there are very few here whose village I felt compelled to burn and very few who have burned mine for abusing their photos with Woody or Godzilla or other PS antics.

I thought about this many times in the past 18 months or so: Why am I addicted to DPC? It's not the photography, it's not the images, it's not even the fact that I am learning new things all the time - Everytime it's the same answer - it's the people - the community. Great people, all of you. ...well, most of you.

Good thread, bear.
