Originally posted by photoneer: I will be in Gatlinburg for a few days this week and would like some suggestions on where to get some good captures early and late in the day. I will volunteer that if you drive into the park out of Gatlinburg, there are some very secluded areas that offer some "different" shots. I've not been in there in a few years, but there are some great old homesteads, etc., that are NOT in Cades Cove. I believe we turned up past the "space needle" (har har har) on top of the hill across from the Ober Gatlinburg ski lift, but I MIGHT be wrong. I'm reasonably sure, though, and you drive several miles in that direction. There are other ways into the park, even out of Gatlinburg.
Cades Cove is a 2-4 hour loop and you spend a lot of time wondering what the idiot in front of you has stopped to view. Best bet is to park and walk in, if you've got good legs and no children.
Nothing wrong with children, it's just that most won't walk 11 miles. That's the loop length. Early mornings, I think it is sometimes closed to cars for bicycles to make the loop without so much aggravation. That might be an option if you cycle. |
