I got my notice in the mail last week. I just let mine pretty much run out (not completely) and ignore the warnings. |

I let mine go until the printer will not let me continue. Then I use a chip resetter and get about 10 more 8x10 prints per cartridge. |

What is a "chip resetter"? Which Epson printer do you have? |

I have the 1270. A chip resetter is a small device (about $10) that you use on the "empty" carts to make the chip on the used cart appear to be a new one. You need to monitor how many prints you do after resetting (since it looks as if it is a fresh cart to the printer) or you might run out of a color in the middle of a print...no big deal- you just waste a piece of paper. The chip resetter has paid for itself many, many, many times over.
There are many sources for the resetter...Here is one. They mention that it is used after refilling the cart but there is no reason that it can't work just as I described. I don't trust aftermarket inks so I don't refill my carts. |

So basically tax payer money was wasting processing this settlement because people felt like suing Epson over a dumb warning?

I always ignored the warning on my Epson 2200 until I saw the color change from lack of ink in one of the cartriges. For the $45 they are paying to settle, it's not even worth my filling out the paper work they sent. But of course they are hoping a lot of people will fill this way so they don't have to pay out the money. It's just like the kicker checks the state of Oregon sent out a few times years ago. It wasn't really that much per person, but it took millions our of the state funds.
I wonder how much it would cost us if we had to buy cartriges that could detect when the ink was out? Probably a lot more than $45 over the life of the printer. The only people that benifited from this are the lawyers that filed the class action suite.

Class action suits are always only for the benefit of Lawyers. No one else makes any thing. Normally you get a discount of buying something else from them and even with the discount price they still make more profit.

I'd rather go to court against Epson then to accept those $45..
I have the Epson 2100/2200 printer and I've spent about $4000 on ink cartridges in the past 18 months so those $45 omly buys 1 refill of one color.. but I need 7 to refill the printer ;)

The parties pay for the proceedings in the forn of court costs, usually assesed against the losing party. Sometimes the moving party has to pay a filing fee at the beginning.

I wanted to know if anyone heard from Epson? They sent back 2 of my 3 printers asking for dates purchased, and the serial # on one I no longer have? Since they originally sent me the paperwork for each specific printer, they obviously have a arecord of it somewhere, so it sounds like they are trying to find ways to not pay. Anyone else having this issue? |

I received nine checks for $25.00 and nine e store credits. Here's the catch, each e store credit can only be used on one purchase at a time. Thus, if you want to buy three refurbished printers with free shipping at $51.00 each, you can not use all you credits to get this free. The best you can do is have three separate transactions and save sixty dollar, but you end up spending $ 93.00. You still have six more e store credits of $20.00 each, so if you use them, you will wind up paying more money to EPSON. Epson does not care about their customers, where is their good will? Why do we have to take this bad treatment? |
