I was at Future Shop the other day and noticed that they had generic telephoto and wide-angle lenses for digital cameras, as well as a UV filter (and possible a polarizing filter as well, but I can't say for sure).
They are called Optex "Magic Mount" - no screws, I couldn't see threads either.
They came in "small" and "large" sizes which are determined by the lens diameter of your camera.
I'm using a Canon A85, and would love to try out the different lenses, and these Optex ones are a LOT less expensive than the ones by Canon.
Has anyone used these ? |

I'm guessing that the lack of response means that nobody's tried them. |

I have no idea, but here's a bump with the hope that someone that does will reply.

Survey says "No go"
The optex lens' are magnetic, and the front of my camera is NOT. So, while they could fit, they would not stay on.

i have one of the optex wide angle lens. it works well. the lens comes with a little steel ring that is stuck on to the front of your camera. (it has a peel-and-stick adhesive.) the steel ring doesn't affect the normal operation of the camera in any way. the lens base is magnetic and holds the lens in place when you want it there. i find it fast and convenient to use.
the only problem i have with the lens is that there is now dust on the inside of the lens body and i don't know how to clean it out. this probably comes from my habit of keeping the lens in my pocket for quick use. ( i do have plastic end caps on it as well)
hope this post helps. jms |
