is it alright to upload it to your website to share it with other people? Or is it better to upload it after the challenge?

You should really remain anonymous until the challenge has finished voting. It is not against the official rules but many people frown upon it and may vote you down if they see it on another site.

The usual route is to wait for the voting to finish before you add it to your regular gallery site. However, what I usually do is post it under a different directory with no links to it and then let my friends know where it is so they can check it out.

I do the same when getting an outside opinion from family/friends - I post it on my personal web site, with no outside links to it, and let friends and family know how to find it.

Of course, if you have a private page on your website that requires a password (homestead.com does this for instance) to access, you could give that password to family members and friends that do not participate in voting on this site. That way, you can always share it without other DPC'ers seeing it.

Alternately, email them a smaller version of it. I often email my father with a couple of choices in the email. He gives me his opinions and feedback in a reply. :)

I don't really care about it. I just vote and comment for the quality of the image, not the photographer behind it. I've done it myself as well. One version here at dpchallenge, another one at photosig (stopped posting images there, doesn't help me one bit) or pbase.
A few challenges back I saw a later winner a couple of days before the challenge started, only the toning was different. It was a great photo, I commented on both entries, so what, it was good, it is good and will forever be good.

What bothers me more is the scoring patterns here lately and the accompanying comments. My first entry was a snapshot. I knew that, it deserved the bad score it got, the comments pointed out the flaws and I learned from it.
My current entry scores on the same level. I am very certain it is actually pretty nice. Not good, but a nice photograph (instead of a snapshot). All the comments say that it is a nice shot. From the eight comments only two point out a possible flaw. It is most certainly better then my first entry (your monitor must be calibrated tough). Now I am scoring bad and no one tells me why.
I was so pissed off about this that I have posted my current entry at another place as well to check how many hits it would get (0 at this point). When you find it, vote as you wish, I don't care. I'd be much happier if you'd tell me what the F* is wrong with it and why it is a sub-5 picture (in my eyes that is below average). And I ain't buying underexposed shit, because it looks good on a calibrated monitor.

Sander - I had the same problem with Egg, couldn't for the life of me see how it deserved the score it got, and likewise recieved no adverse comments. With Bridges I'm getting several 'too dark' comments, though those are pretty much all the criticism amounts to.

The two things I've learned about the challenges here: 'clean' photos do well, and bright photos do well. If you're participating to win challenges, then I suspect you have a long hard complicated and frustrating time ahead of you (either that or persuade Rackat to tell her secret). I'm goiong to check out your shots now and see if I have anything 'constructive' to say ... :-)
