It appears I will be attending my nephew's wedding in Eugene, Oregon on the 10th of September. I'll be flying out with Karma the Wonderdog. I don't have the exact dates yet, but I'll be flying into Portland, picking up a rental car, and spending, I think, 3-4 days on family activities. I woulkd guess I'd be flying in on the 8th, and finishing up with family the morning of the 11th. I'll be returning the car to Portland and flying back from there.

It looks like I'll be able to grab some extra time for myself and do a little traveling, but this will be dependent on the goodwill of our Oregon membership, because I won't have the budget for motel rooms or, indeed, much of anything. But I'd LOVE to do some shooting, especially on the coast.

Will trade cooking for shelter :-) Any takers? May's well start planning early, as we are gonna have to purchase this ticket well in advance.

Robt.

Edit to add: I guess Washington is a possibility as well.

If anything I would like to meet you for lunch. This is the time U of O football will be going on and there is not alot of spare time. I may be in California that weekend. If that is the case, I will miss having the opportunity to meet you. If not perhaps we can get together on sunday. I guess I will not know till august.

Thanks for the response. If you follow Oregon Lacrosse, both my nephews were varsity in that; Conor and Taylor Schofield... I'll look forward to (maybe) seeing you then.

Sure you don't want to go to my son's wedding on the Oregon coast? It is May 13th. That is a lot sooner. LOL!

We could get some kick ass landscapes there. Oregon offers an incredible variety of landscape opportunities and you don't have to go anywhere near Cannon Beach or the coast to get them.

You will have super photo opportunities out of Eugene. September is a great month to take pictures there. Be sure to take the drive up the Mckenzie River all the way to the pass over the Cascades. There is great scenery featuring Douglas Fir and white water along the way.

Sahalie Falls and Clear Lake are way up near the pass but worth every millimeter you have to drive to get there.

Btw... also along the way up the pass are some great lava flows and Belknap Hot Springs.

Gawd, I envy you. :)

Bear - can't help you with Oregon but we have a small guest house at our place up in Anacortes, about four hours north of Portland. We are alwyas open to company, especially if they cook! If nothing works out down there and you decide you want to give it a try let me know by e-mail. Lots of photography ops up there with the San Juan Islands, Mt.Baker and Deception Pass to name a few.

Good luck with your trip.

Anacortes and the San Juans, that's fantastic country. Back in the late 70's/mid-80's I cratered a sailboat out of Anacortes several times, one of my favorite places in the country. It's definitely a thought. 6-hour drive from Eugene, though, then 4 back to Portland airport. You guys got a boat? (wink)

No boat. Sold my last one a year ago. But I do have friends that still have boats so you never know. There is always the opportunity to walk on the ferry to the Islands and make it a day (walk on is much cheaper but you are limited to the boat ride and maybe a visit to Friday Harbor. It is quite a drive from down there and only worth it if you can spend some time to explore. Oregon, as I'm sure you know, is beautiful and certainly is a better bet out of Portland. Someone will come through I'm sure but if not we are open.

edit: I have to go but will check back with this tread later. Good luck.

Hi Robert,

My wife Becky and I have a boat, but we've never slept on it. However, we also have a guest room that you're welcome to use for a while.

If you're interested, I'll PM you with our phone number.

Regards,
Mick

Too bad -- my uncle just moved away from a place along that highway, right on the lake just above the Leaburg dam and fish hatchery, a few miles before those hot springs. This covered bridge crosses the river just above his (former) place, about 25 miles from the intersection with I-5 in Eugene.

Funny, I just took about 20 images from the inside of that bridge just last week. Very nice up there.

You guys are doing this on purpose, aren't you? Just to make me homesick for the Northwest. LOL!!

I gotta tell ya, based on this image:

(hidden)

It seems to me a visit to Mick Newton is an absolute must...

Now it seems tome there's a CharlieBaker around here, parent of Zoomdak, who lives on Cannon Beach. CHARLIE, you here?

I can see a broad swing over to the coast, overnight at Cannon Beach, cut back to MickNewtonTheCrazy, load him in the car the next day, head for Anacortes, drive JB out of his mind... I may have to extend this trip... we got months to plan though...

I hid the photo because it has really bad post shot editing. :)

Sorry about that, MIck. Brain fart :-( If I'd thought for 1 minute I'd have realized that wasn't a very smart thing to post for everyone to see...

Let the mystery deepen (grin).

Bear_Music on the west coast, huh? Hmmm, looks like you already have boarding offers all over the place, but I definitely want to get penciled in for a GTG anywhere in the Pacific NW. Landscapes, seascapes, etc. will be ok, but I really wanna get some shots of Karma, the assless wonderdog. :) Keep me in the loop.
