And obviously Islam does not allow, under any situation, for muslims to take pictures of naked women. Islam does not even allow us to photograph living things.

Well, I guess if abortion procedures can be mentioned in the Bible, then photography can be mentioned in the Quran...

Hehe, no actually it is not in the Koran. ... Actually the Koran forbids drawing of living creatures, so it is common sense that photography of living things should also not be allowed.

Agreed that it is a short jump in logic to disallow automated drawing if all drawings are to be disallowed. But does it say why the drawings are not allowed?

Well, sometimes one must take things on faith. Just like believing in God without actually seeing him. The Prophet had said that those who make drawings etc of living creatures will be asked by God, on the day of judgment, to put life in them. So it has been disallowed by the Prophet.

Sorry I wasn't following the thread cause it was sleepy time here in Pakistan ;-)

No problem -- sleep all you want. That's the beauty of forums -- the participants don't have to be present at the same time.

No thank you. Taking things on faith is (to me) the same as not thinking for myself. This can only lead to my not taking responsiblity for my own actions by basing them on the unsubstantiated words of another. Taking, and acting, on the words of another with unquestioning loyalty is the path of the zealot -- the same zealotry (is that a word?) that has been condemned by nearly all who have posted in this thread.

This is interesting -- and certainly not the twist on it I expected (or that Paul mentioned above). However, and no disrespect is intended, with terms that are as general and broadly defined as 'drawings' and 'life', this seems to me to be a passage ripe for mistranslation and misinterpretation.

Oh, and as an aside, I have seen many portraits and candids here where I can say with certainty the photographer did put life into them. Out of respect for your beliefs I won't post a link to it, but Dan's recent portrait of a photographer is just one excellent example of life being put into the 'drawing' by the artist. I believe that, by it's nature, putting life into a creation is the basis of all art.

This is the kind of thread that should be read carefully because of the well-natured and intended comments regarding diverse faiths and the need to allow everyone to be who they want to be, and practise their faith in a way that is conducive to society at large. It is the latter point that is often disregarded by all parties when seeking to make proclamations that others may find extreme or contrary to their own faith or belief.

I guess that there are two many examples of the abuse of the teachings of a particular faith in history to ignore - e.g. "God is on our side!" - as these show how the use of faith is often (but not always) uses as propaganda. Such use often runs counter to the true teachings of the faith in question. Kudos to Ignite for kicking this one off.

On the other hand, is this site not a good example of the tolerance shown in a multi-"faith" community, where the adherents of Nikon and Canon can live side by side in harmony? Even the little-known sect of Panasonic can exist here too... :-)

"little-known sect of Panasonic".... Hey this is a great camera ;-)

And as far as pictures are concerned, I take pictures. I mean every wedding, party, anything, there are pictures being taken and videos being made. I know only one person in my entire family who does not let his picture be taken ;-) He has a long beard and is very religious though.

I am gonna be setting up my portfolio online soon. I work as a freelance graphic and web designer, so I don't have time to complete my own website; I am mostly stuck doing other people's work :-(

thanks for the post, enlightening.

just a quick thought for those fellow americans.

we have all been through some intense times in recent memory, and fall back on those episodes, to give homage and memory to the fallen.

BUT, we also must know our history so we know how we as Americans have gotten here, and why there IS terrorism from Iraq, Afganistan, Israel, and so on.

Remember a little war called WW1? How do you think those forementioned countries became what they are today? Not because the allies wanted free thinking locals to conduct their countries the way they saw fit. Because, the allies wanted control of the region, and the oil.

Remember Kent State? Remember Wounded Knee? Remember the imprisonment of thousands of American Japanese? Remember the Alamo?
