Does anyone actually use this or is it a waste of money and pride?

Could have several uses, e.g soundproof if you're birdwatching, of just keeping the rain off of the camera. Still, you wouldn't catch me using one in public! :-D

I use something similar on my cameras, although it's home made.

In fact I used it twice yesterday, once for netball game, and again at a rugby match.

Yes, they look dorky, but if you don't have a 1D series body (d2x for nikonians) and need to shoot in the rain, what are your options? Plastic bags look even more dorky.

Cheers, Me.

You could always shoot with an E-1!

One of those would have come in very handy not long ago when I was taking shots of a singer-songwriter in a very small venue.

He was having the entire performance recorded for a live album and while he was gracious enough to give me an excellent seat, I was directly next to the recording equipment. I ended up wrapping my camera up in a sweatshirt and had to put it inside my jacket with my arms in backwards through the sides and the lens pointing out through the neck to soundproof it enough that the mic wasn't picking up any lens movement or shutter clicks. It was very much like the old film rolling bags, but much more cumbersome.

If you think that black bag looks dorky - try shooting through a jacket. The performer looked over at me and cracked up at one point. Talk about embarassing. :)
