I thought I was going mad but now I am sure. In my Complimentary Colours entry I have received two particular comments stating how much they love my image and that have given it a 10.
The vote count goes up by one with each of these comments....but the vote score stays the same.
The first one was around the 24th vote mark...so I am sure that wasn't a late commentor and the second one was around the 110th vote.
What gives? |

Someone like me who sorts on first pass and then revisits and bumps the "best" images, probably.

Yes....a possibility. But..when the vote count goes up by 1 but the overall score itself doesn't change...even in the .XXXX
Now that is a possibility of the latter comment...but the early comment came in during the early 20 votes...therefore any form of a vote would have had an effect...and it was in the .XXXX at the time.
What I am saying is that according to the stats...a vote was made...but no vote was recorded and yet both of those votes came with a comment stating they gave it a 10. |

Maybe they didn't, accidentally? |

Okay that brings me to another really basic question. Yeah, I know...I used to be blonde...but you might be able to help me. In the old voting system I could leave a comment without a vote...! But how on earth can you do that with the new voting system....I write a comment...and then what do I do.
Yeah, yeah...I know...real basic...HUH!! lol! |

Okay..so if I leave a comment and click the arrow to move onto the next image...will that then increase the votes on that image by one????? |

if you go to the next image and leave a comment, without giving it a score, it is my understanding that it will not effect the vote count.
One thing also to consider is from my understanding none of your votes count till you vote for at least 20% of the images in the challange. So this would make me guess that they have voted on your image but have not reached that 20% mark yet so there votes are not being calculated untill they do reach that mark.

Oh...well that is something I did not know...thanks Jent. But how does that explain the early voters...you know...the ones that vote within the first 5 minutes of a challenge...surely they haven't reached their 20% in that quick a time, especially when the site has slowed to a crawl.

That doesn;t make any sense: how come you can see your score from the beginning on? Nobody voted the 20% from the start |

Nope, I'm pretty sure those votes aren't discounted until end of voting. The problem is that you have no idea what's happening. Someone could have already voted you a 10 and *then* came along and commented. The vote count went up by 1 because someone else happened to vote at the same time.
Or you got a 10 vote but someone happened to vote you a 2 at the same time.
You're only seeing cumulative stats.

I've gotten positive comments where they said they were scoring it a 10 only to see my score go down rather significantly with just 1 vote added to the total. Of course it could have been someone else that voted and they were just coming back for comments. Still, I wonder how many actually lie in their comments and more importantly what point does it serve.

My understanding of this process is that the totality of your votes must be 20% of the number of photos in a challenge. Your vote will still be seen from the onset, but will disappear if you dont meet the 20% requirement.

The only thing I can come up with is that at the same time someone gives you a 10, another one who has already voted is dropping his score on your picture. Does that make sense?
hypothetical example:
4 votes
av. 8
5 votes (the fifth is a 10)
one of the other 4 drops his score from 8 to 6.
5 votes
av. 8

I had this happen to me a couple of challenges ago. Needless to say, the commentor who wasn't a baggie left me a comment that it was an instant fave and the best of the bunch. However, his score didn't reflect that as he gave me a 3 (i'm sorry, i check all the time... i need a life). So like everyone else, I checked his profile and lo and behold, a 3 equates to about a 9 in most people's voting scale ;)

You could receive an additional vote and see no change in your average score if the vote and your average score were the same. Ex: If your average score was 6.0000 and another voter gave you a 6. But this is unlikely because our averages are rarely intergers, and even more unlikely if the voter gave a 10.
Does seem a bit curious Judi.

Thankyou....I am glad somebody else can see what I am trying to explain. When the score is sitting in..okay for example...6.3927 and your vote is 87. Somebody comes in and leaves a comment stating they give you a 10...your vote count is now on 88 and your score is...stil on 6.3927....!!!! |

Funny you should say that because my Complementary Colors III entry is currently at 6.0000.
Speaking of voting is anybody voting today? I've gotten a total of 3 votes in the last 8-10 hours counting both of my entries (windows framed is the other).

What I've notice lately, the open challenges my score goes up 1 1/2 to 2 tenths or more the last several weeks, the member challenges are all most right on the money.....ace

The way I understand it is that voters that don't reach 20% votes are tossed out at the end of voting. The votes ARE counted during voting.

WOW, with 108 votes I dropped from 6.63 to 6.53 in one vote! Someone must have really hated my entry and dug deep with a negative 10 ;)

Exactly. I've noticed often my score will go up at turnover probably due to some evil trolls that were too lazy to vote on at least 20%. :P

well, if you weren't a member, I was going to say it only updates the score once an hour, but since you are, I suppose maybe it's a glitch... my profile says I've made 30 comments and 39 of them were helpful. |
