I think it's because it looks new, though I gave it a 10.

I got hit with DNMC on one photo, scoring 3.something on a technically decent and creative shot, when it DID definitely meet the challenge. But it wasn't obvious to most, which I hadn't considered because it WAS obvious to me. It happens constantly, so we just hafta hit 'em in the face with our shots so there's NO question, I guess.

The thing is this... how are we to know something is truly old? Shouldn't the photo get that message across? To me the new/old challenges were just as much about projecting the concept of new/old as it was about taking a photo of a new/old object. Conveyance is everything.

Well, to be honest I didn't focus on trying to convey "oldness" I just shot something that was old and concentrated on trying to produce a good photo. However, I get what you and others have said.

With that said, I thought it did have "oldness" in that it's not a new camera and this being a photography web site I thought people would know their cameras or at the very least if they were unsure they'd look it up. If this challenge was on some generic web site that wasn't catered to semi-pro/pro photographers I probably would have never entered it. And that's really the only shock I had here is that voters here are no different than the masses. I always thought (mistakenly) this being a photography site people would take more time evaluating each photo and would be more educated in the process but that just isn't so. It's as much of a beauty pageant as anything else, which is why so many quality black and white photos don't do as well because everyone wants bright colors. Anyway, I've been enlightened and I'm over it.
