mk is a friend of mine and i will miss working with her on the sc.
that said, i'm sure she is still reading this thread and i think volunteering to be on the SC in the same breath as regretting her departure kind of cheapens the sentiment. |
I also disagree with this premise. Would it make anyone feel better if say some member started another thread to make that suggestion... I think not.
I can assure you that in the various positions that I have held so far in my lifetime... many were the occasions were subbordinates, peers and superiors expressed similar sentiments to those being proferred to MK at this juncture... but all of them would have been remiss had they also not planned for and found a replacement for me as soon as possible.
The two courses of action in this instance are not exclusive, and in no way are to be construed as an affront to MK... at least not in my view.
Just a thought,
Ray

The problem is the assumption that there *needs* to be a replacement.
Which is something that should be dealt with by Drew and Langdon and the SC, not the membership at large until such a point as the call for a replacement has happened.

While I respect your opinion to state your postion, do not other's have that same right?
I've read all of the post's in this thread and wasn't offended by anyone putting their name in the hat for SC if one is available. Maybe the spot will be filled, maybe not - you're correct, that is up to D&L, but that shouldn't hinder others from talking about it.
If MK is reading this thread at this point I'd imagine she's getting a big laugh from it, as it's kind of indicative of how these threads spiral out of control after a while. I'm as guilty as anyone for the diversions! ;^) |

knowing her, i would think if she was even halfway inclined to say anything she would have poked her head in here and put us all down in 5 or 6 short, pointed, acerbic words.
the fact that she's not posted here speaks volumes. if you all really wish her well, then do so. don't do it with a backhanded complement. |

The assumption is solely yours... because if you read the initial proposal there was a big "IF" you may have missed.
It could also be that people of my genre tend to be proactive rather than reactive in such scenarios, since this manner of proceeding lends itself to a more fluid transition.

Guys (and gals) if you want to wish mk well, please do so. If not, don't. But please stop bickering. |

Having read blemt and muckponds' comments, I am going to assume that there is a reason for MK deciding to step down that makes the discussion as to a potential replacement particularily bitter right now.
I don't see anything posted in this thread that seems inappropriate or that somehow lessens peoples' appreciation of MK's contributions.
I don't think anyone intended to offend, and I hope none has been taken. |

honestly, ya'll were as surprised as I was. The only "bitter" thing about it is that she is no longer SC.
I kinda felt the same way as others did about "volunteering." I don't think anyone meant any harm by it, or any rudeness, it just almost seemed like thread jacking to me. And then it seemed that people started arguing about that.
So, with all that said, let's try to stay on topic.
mk + archery (which has sharp objects hurdling through space at great speeds) = pain for someone. (glad I'm in NC) |

Maybe it's just me but I see it as a compliment that people think her old position needs to be filled immmediately. To think otherwise would be more of an insult, IMO.

Everyone who has been paying attention knows that mk and I have had our disagreements in these forums. They may not know of the several occasions when she helped me out when I needed it. I have nothing but respect for her as a member of this community, as a member of SC, and as a person of high integrity. I will miss her.
Thanks for your unselfish service to our community mk, and best wishes for nothing but success in your new endeavors. Hope you will still come around here once in a while, and enter the occasional challenge.

Thanks for the kind words everyone and the load of PMs. I'm especially flattered by the people who think the site will crumble without my immediate replacement. :P I had a great time serving as Site Council and having the opportunity to help where I could, as obnoxious and abrasive as I may be. My decision to step down has nothing to do with quitting photography for archery, which I am only half serious about.* It was just becoming increasingly clear that Site Council was no longer the place for me. I have no plans to leave the site entirely. I'll definitely finish out WPL with Team SMITE and I've been making a concerted effort to do much better at leaving comments, something that I've obviously sucked at during my time here. Besides, think of the things I can say now that I won't have to worry about the "you should be better behaved, you're on Site Council" lectures! ;)
*Given the price of archery equipment, I probably would have to sell all my photography stuff. Good lord. And Kavey, it'd be target archery. I spent many years doing archery as a camper, working my way through the various levels of the Camp Archery Association and eventually getting certified to teach when I was on staff. I've never done it outside of camp, though, so I don't have my own equipment. The company I work for now even has an archery club but you have to bring your own stuff. Stay tuned! |

mk, almost every one of us has been a pain in the SC's collective butt at some point in the past or another. I know I was back in the days of debate over advanced editing... Anyways, I am sure that most of us appreciate everything that you have done. You were a great babysitter. I will miss seein' you around in official uniform...
Yours forever,
Ron (It's hard not to type it TC here...) |

MK I'm really chuffed you'll still be here on DPC (and hopefully in chat too). You make me think and you make me smile - two bloody valuable assets in a friend, if you ask me, not that you did, but there you go. It's in the nature of pie to volunteer one's opinion anyways!
Oh and I was just asking about the archery because the only type I've ever done is field archery a couple of times on the annual uni-gang week long holidays in the UK - in Cornwall in this instance. I had a hell of a job because the position the instructor insisted was the correct one to hold the bow in meant twanging my tit everytime I let loose an arrow. :o) Also, my aim is crap. But it was mucho fun shooting at huge cartoon cardboard animal cutouts in the middle of a forest!!!

Best wishes what ever you decide MK. Obviously I am greedy and would like you to stay active on the siteand in photography.
But sometimes in life you go in different directions that suit your needs and wants better...and there is nothing wrong with that. |

MK - we have shared so many stories by the fire, laughed together, and cried together (well, you cried...I'm farrr too manly). I'll never forget those times at the Lake with all of our friends. Your breakdancing lectures, 'snowball' fights in the summer (what a hoot!). You taught me sign language, in Mandarin and how to can peaches. For that, I'm TRULY thankful.
I'll never forget those school days in Edinburgh back in the '90s...I cherish and look back at those life lessons as the most rewarding.
You're mah boy, Blue. You're mah boy!
We've kinda lost contact over the past few years...and I hope this SC decision isn't my fault. If it is, please let me apologize.
Best of luck in your new-found freedom...just like second semester Junior year!! Hahaha! Whew...Good times. Good times.
