I just wondered if anyone had and comments on this picture - it was one of my outtakes for childhood without children. I can't decide whether I should have been more ballsy and submitted this one.

Misplaced childhood

I know it's the wrong size for the challenge. I would have cropped it to the right size for the challenge if I'd submitted it. But this is my favourite crop if I've not got the restrictions.

lol. I think you would have gotten reamed John. However, how many kids do you know that don't "snicker" at large drawings of male genitalia. Hey. That just gave me another idea. What little boy do you know that didn't try to take a peek at the neighbor girl changing, or his big brothers playboy magazines. Playing doctor...now there's another photo. What about that first day of Sex-ed. SO many different childhoods, so many different childhood memories. unfortunately, not everyone is going to approve (or admit) that it could have been theirs. I love the photo John...keep up the good work. Where was that taken?

hey floyd. this is really nice, is it a wall or a sidewalk? in either case, how about you go back at magic hour, get it dusted with that sweet golden light, get some long shadows, might get a little confusing with shadows and indentations overlapping, but i bet you can still get a clear shot of the unit.
and as long as your asking for advice, i'm a bigot when it comes to cropped photos, i like to see the same rectangle you saw through the lens. but that's just me. just for giggles, though, wanna post the uncropped version beside the cropped one?
Happy labor day. Peace.

I tend to agree - which is part of why I didnt use it as my submission. Even so, there's a rebellious part of me that would like to have seen the comments it would have generated.

It's a wall. There's this small building (I think it's an eletricity hub or something inside) just near our local park. In the brickwork wall there's this panel of concrete that was obviously left before it dried and this is the result. It's odd because I live in a rather "nice" little town and this is the only bit of grafitti I'm aware of anywhere around here. I guess when the local kids got this rare chance they really went for it.

Sure thing - here's the shot that came out of the camera. I've only shrunk it down to 800 pixels wide. Other than that I've not touched it.

As it came out of the camera

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I like it as well ... I see it very well in a book with other pictures regarding childhood or children or ....
I have been trying to figure if I would have like it better withe the left part .. answer is no. I finally thought I would have liked it better if the representation onf the object we are talking about would have been not as big inside the picture ... but hey .. that's how it has been drawn. I still like the picture . Did you tried other shots of that wall ?

ok .. I just saw the whole shot you did .. so it answers my question above ... ok .. finally ... I do not know .. but I like the shot.

Thanks for your comments Lionel. I did wonder whether I should include the grafitti penis but eventually I decided that it was too important a part of this grafitti to leave it out. It's the part that most draws your eye when you look at it. Leaving it out would have seemed to me to be dishonest.

I did take other shots of the wall they all looked much the same. I should perhaps go back at a different time of day as Johnny suggests.

Floyd,
I like it rather well as you took it. I like the color contrast between bricks and concrete. It tells its own story as a wall, which makes it a more lasting shot.
Good shot.
