Sweet! I can get used to this. I can't wait to try editing with it, but first I have to go out and try out the lens that I order with it.
I can say that I am not a fan of the included mouse. It's got more friction to it that my Logitech Optical Mice I use. Good thing you can have multiple mice via USB. ;) |

Mine showed up this morning. Gonna play with it more tonight once theh family is in bed. If it works well then some of the negative votes will go up. If I am frustrated they may go down. (although with my score frustrartion has already set in.) |

Apparently Texas is considered a foreign country or something because mine isn't scheduled to get here until the 28th. I mean, I know Texas is a big place and all, but sheesh! A pox on all of you who have yours already!

Horrible isn't it :-/ Have played with it for about 15 minutes now - I already love the pen but hate the mouse. Since this makes the 3rd mouse on this machine (1 other USB and 1 PS/2 with a ball and all), I can live without it :-) I love the direct positioning on the pen though!!
Seriously, I can see myself using the pen a LOT for general stuff. I am finding the pressure thing hard to control right now for drawing but I will have a play in the config and just get used to it for a while.
My only initial issue is that the pen is VERY plastic feeling and just does not feel like a nice (or average) pen. I guess that is one of the trade off's so overall I am happy so far. |

Hmmm... Dell Laptop docked. 1 'eraser' pointer, 1 touchpad, 1 USB mouse (formerly two, one for left hand, one for right hand), and finally Wacom. Should I ever get bored of one... HA! |

I even ordered mine before you did. And I'm still waiting for it to get here.... so yeah, a pox! (But a kind and gentle pox that you'll notice hardly at all.)
So a question for the new owners - I know nothing about this thing - uses a USB port? Will it conflict with my wireless keyboard/mouse (since from what I've heard so far, most are sticking with their current meeses?) |

USB port and I dont see myself ever really using the mouse. The pen I can see will rock though once I get a hang of it. I think well worth the $60. |

If you leave the mouse or pen lying on the tablet (or rally close) it can create problems with other input devices. Otherwise, they should all control the cursor OK -- I don't know what'd happen if you moved them all at once though ... : (
The Graphire has a "clip" area along the top edge where you can dock the pen, and it also comes with a little plastic pen stand for your desk.

The thing I am finding strange about this is that the pen is "working" as if the left mouse button were being held down as long as it's in contact with the surface of the pad. So if you accidentally touch the pad, instead of hovering over it, while moving the cursor into position, something happens. Those of us older folks whose hands aren't as steady as they used to be may find this problematical. I imagine the sensitivity of the tip can be set so you have to actually press fairly hard to make an action, I'll look atthat.
On the other hand, I am finding the Wacom mouse very useable indeed. So I have just yanked my (corded) optical mouse out and plugged the Wacom into that USB port. But while I had both loaded up, no interference was noted. As long as neither the pen nor the mouse was in contact with the tablet, it was inert. Establishing contact disabled the optical mouse, breaking it restored it.
That pen's a strange device. It certainly makes working with masks much more palatable. I rarely used actual "masks", relying only on selections, before. These, of course, ARE masks in their own right, but these "paintable" masks make simpler some interesting effects. You can basically feather visually, too, and that's useful in its own right. But I have a long way to fo.

To all of you folks who may be finding the pen tool a bit less natural than a pen on paper, I very strongly recommend opening up Windows Paint or whatever the equivalent is on the machine you're using and doodling in there for at least 15 minutes. Try things like signing your name, doodling faces, geometric figures, whatever. I know we're all avid Photoshop and other advanced post-processing tool fans here, but that's precisely why I'm recommending something as basic as Paint: so you won't feel at all tempted to do anything more with it than doodle.
I've found that with everyone I've ever let use my tablet (and there have been quite a few), doing this simple exercise for a while very quickly helped them get their brain in gear to use it just as they would a pen on paper. And actually, when I'm teaching older adults who are using a computer for the first time and are baffled by the mouse do the same exercise with the mouse, and it's amazing how quickly they adapt. (For that, I think it's because you can't do anything "wrong" while you're doodling, and so they play around without any anxiety. But anyway, that's another story.)
So please, don't get frustrated with the pen. Give yourself some time to adjust. I hope this exercise helps. :)
And welcome to the wonderful world of Wacom. :)

Hehe. Try this. Two Mice. Turn one mouse 90 degrees and you've got an expensive etch-a-sketch by moving each mouse left and right. I'm EVIL! Muhahahaha... |

Hmmm... I'm trying to think up something that might help you there, Robt. Analyzing the way I work, I tend to hold the pen (all writing implements for that matter) a bit closer to the tip than perhaps the average person does. So unless I'm actually pressing down to "write", the pen naturally hovers slightly above the paper (or tablet, in this case). Then I just slide my hand around to move the cursor. My hand is always in contact with the tablet even when my pen isn't. If you continue to have trouble, perhaps I can snap a picture showing how I'm holding the pen. I suspect you'll adapt to it in your own way, though. Perhaps it will help to just think to yourself, "I want to draw on the screen" instead of "I want to move the mouse cursor," because if you actually were drawing on paper, I doubt very much that you'd have your pen on the paper all the time. Also, see my exercise with Paint in my post above. that might help.
Good luck!

Don't fret Cindi, I'm waiting on mine to. It's scheduled for delivery today. It will come after I have already left for work, as usual. I think the UPS person waits around the corner and watches me leave, then drops my stuff off.
