I currently have 2 lenses for my 20D
I was looking for any thoughts or suggestions you may have as to what I should get next.
The lenses I already have are:
Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC for Canon
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
I chose the 18-200 for ease when on days out etc.
The 50mm for it's low light and and shallow depth of field for portraits, etc.
I don't think I would get much use out of a Fish-eye lens, and I'm a little undecided about a macro lens.
I was thinking that I would go for something like the Canon 100-400 L IS. Although, from the price the Sigma 50-500mm f/4.0-6.3 EX DG HSM looks like a good buy, but I imagine that the IS would make the 100-400 a much more useful lens.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.
What would you buy next if you had my current equipment?

Not tried the 100-400 or the Bigma, but I would say that given normal UK weather and lighting, the IS of the 100-400 would give it the edge, albeit at a price premium. By all accounts, the Bigma is pretty sharp, almost as sharp as the Canon, most likely indistinguishable. I had the Sigma 80-400 and it was ridiculously sharp, but terribly slow focussing.

My Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM is the lens that is on my camera more than any other, and I would hate to do without it.
So that is what I would buy next if I were you.
Edited to say: but if I had read your post properly, I would have known that you're already covered on the wider end :-(

Are you sure the slow focusing wasn't down to the SiPix Blink rather than the lens? :) |
