I am a college student, and I am trying to get a job assisting a photographer durring this summer, for experience. I have some on in mind that I want to ask, but is there a certain way I should approach it? I dont know her personally and I am vaguely familiar with her work. What would you suggest? What should I say? Or is this just a bad idea all together?

Just do it the worst that can happen is that she says no. How many times have you heard that word? LOL
Just be honest and sincere and if it is meant to be it will be!
Good luck!

You make it sound like asking her out on a date. :-)
Which, btw, is not all that much different.
1) Show Interest in her work (like a potnetial date? YUP).
2) Engage her in why you'd be a good helper.
3) Don't sound patronizing :-)
I could keep going, but I think Wazz hit the nail on the head.

Are you just wanting to assist or learn and shoot with her.
If its just assist work then just(and look at step 4) ask but if your wanting to work and learn then..
1)I would make sure I have a portfolio to show so she can see your current work.
2) Look at her work and let her know what it is bout her work/style that intrest you and why you want to learn it.
3) be reasonable on salary but I would insit on getting paid for shots you take that are sold and getting the credit for them
4) Finally and very importantly be polite and professional dress nice and all that Jazz |
