I'm going to be doing the same thing in about a month here and I'm so ready. I'll probably sell everything I already have to get some better lenses as well, but the lenses won't be much of a problem for you anyways. I think in the last 3 weeks I've had about 5 dreams about owning the 5D already...gah so long to wait!

Those are at opposite ends of the spectrum. For sports, go for the 30D with its 5 fps frame rate (unless you can afford the 1D Mark IIn, which is a killer sports camera) and for landscapes, go for the 5D with its full frame sensor.


The 5D has six "hidden" AF points, and may be good for sports because of that. On a 300D, I miss-focused on a lot of shots becasue of the lack of AI servo and relatively poor focusing ability of the 300D (indoor basketball, ISO 1600, couldn't use sports mode)

You'll have to decide whether the beter focusing of the 5D or the 2fps higher frame rate of the 20D/30D is more important. This will probably depend on what sports you will shoot, and the available light.

And, yea, if I could afford it, I'd also buy a 1D MIIn

the other day i was shooting a track and field event, and the photog next to me had a 1ds, and i was like click...click...clik,
and he was like clickclickclickclickclick, i was embarased, i got up and went to a new spot. so 3fps is slow, but i dont shoot much sports so im good to go.

Get it. Cant go wrong (unless shooting fast sports)

Best for low light. incredibly detailed. 12.8 mpx. fullframe.

And for £1599 great value IMHO.

I havent looked back.

do you think there could be a hack that could add FPS to the 5D
