The 2006 Pulitzer for Feature photography went to Todd Heisler, who spent a year with Marines stationed at Aurora Colorado's Buckley Air Force Base who have found themselves called upon to notify families of the deaths of their sons in Iraq.

This is not in any way a political thread so don't turn it into one please. I just saw the article link posted on dpreview and thought it was a good read. This one is the best IMO, what you don't realize unless you read the article is that the people in the plane are looking at the fallen Marine's pregnant wife, and I'll link this one because the site's link is broken, and it's worth it.

| The photo, the one that actually got the Pulitzer, also won its section of the World Press Photo this year - it truly is a remarkable image: honest, kind, feeling, sensitive, from the heart. |

okay...I just got done bawling my eyes out looking at this... I think the most heartbreaking photo was of the pregnant wife with her belly pressed against the casket and the one where she slept by his casket because she wanted to sleep by him one last time...jesus...it makes me bawl again just typing it!
