I've never tried this before, but when I started voting on Window Framed I told myself I'm going to comment on the first 25 entries no matter what. It was quite interesting and I liked the experience. That way you get both good and bad. I tried to make the comment more than 10 words too.

I encourage others to try it and see what they think. The not being able to choose which pictures you comment on was very interesting.

The natural extension to this is to comment on all entries, but that's seriously hardcore!

I like this idea. I will try it when I start voting tomorrow.

Good idea. Besides being a way of "forcing" you to comment, it also ensures comments for good and bad entries. But the really interesting part is making the comment more than 10 words!!

I for one am a bit tired of getting extremely short comments like "Nice" and "I like this" and that sort of stuff. I think that even when giving praise (and we all like that) the comments should let us know why we are getting that praise... and when commenting, we are forced to justify our likes and dislikes.

I like it, and will definetly give it a try.

I'd like to try it next challenge, allready have my votes cast!

edit: I want to comment on each entry, the 10-word-idea is a great one. Gonna try!

edit 2: sometimes it's hard to find a word in english.. I'm stuck at the 2nd photo... :S

You know what, so will I. A good comment is worth so much. By good, I don't mean a comment saying the photograph is good, but a constructive comment. I just got a fabulous comment on my "Window Framed" and I am truly happy someone would want to give it so much thought and express it in detail. Very helpful indeed. I will say thank you to the gentleman in question after voting is over.

I seem to recall reading elsewhere that the pictures come up in random order for everyone - ie we don't all see the same pictures in the first 25, right? Even so, I tend to start in the middle for some odd, unexplained reason and vote from there. I comment on at least 20% so maybe this time I'll just comment as I vote until I get to 20%! Might distribute the comments a little more to some of the "middling masses", and we truly appreciate that. :-)

Well, I try to do my 4.7-5.3 thread most weeks as well. I do agree the middle is where the comments are probably most helpful and least given.

This is a great idea... I might try it. It would force me to comment, something I'm not very good at. I still feel too inexperienced to be giving anybody any help. 10 words would be real challenge for me, but hey, this place is about challenges, right?

Don't let the inexperience stop you from commenting. You know what you like and what you don't, and that commentary can help the photographer.
