Here's my attempt at a self-portrait. I tried to do something a little different than I normally do. I need tips! Help!

maybe move in a little closer, or use a larger aperature to throw the foreground out of focus...my eyes go to the Softsoap, broken lightbulb, and towel holder

Thanks for the comment! Good tips as well. I unscrewed the light bulb on purpose for the shot. It does draw more attention than I wanted though. |

Nice portrait of you. For now, you might consider to use the clone stamp tool to erase those distracting things like the soap and the towel holder. I guess it'll also look better if you crop this one below the lights.
Next time you could try to use another background. |

In that case you might want to try a filter or something else to accentuate that as opposed to having it stand out. Hey! For $25 you can get a video showing how to get the "Joey" feel. (//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=382443)

I like the angle. Mirrors are tough. The towel rack coming off your shoulder in the mirror is distracting (and the soap!).
You might check your white balance also.
Reminds me of a self portrait I did many, many years ago... but I had more body fat! :)
Overall I like the shot.
