Man, that's a doozy, some distant relative of a hemi-sestina? Lovely, certainly, but a tough poem to fit into one picture. So I broke it into 3, one of which belongs to Posthumous.

That's very nice, thank you! I like that triptych quite a lot for this poem. And kudos to you for the "hemi-sestina" comment; clearly you know something about poetic forms. Others have commented that the varied repetitions in this poem are sestina-like, but of course the form is nowhere near as rigid as a true sestina. To some extehnt it also echoes froms like the rondolet and the villanelle, but it does not have such a rigid design to it and of course the repetends, such as they are, are very liberal.

I use a lot of repetition in my poetry, is the bottom line, and this is an extreme example. It works for me here because 'm trying to get the feeling of the cycle of life, more or less.

 Again, thanks!

All lovely poems. Nothing I have to hand comes to mind right now as suitable for one of these, but I'll keep looking.

Through the past a window shines
 Unto the future promise binds
A framed and lighted perfect pose
With streaming hair and face that shows
The eyes mysterious, dark and deep
Forgotten secrets to which they keep
 A smile, trusted, true disguise
 Suspicion lurking to arise
The tangible seen is only half
 The meaning within this photograph

Right now, if anyone has a sad pic, I have enough emotion for that to make that feeling come to life in words.

here is one that while some may say is just a picture of a flower, says a lot more to me....tranquilty, seperation, could go on but my mind is too numb from reading about Jeff. If you would write a poem from his inspiration.......

 Heart that remembers
 happier times
when purpose and life and death
 would be forgotten

 thoughts so tender
 of what they meant
 of what they shared
 joy and mirth begotten

 these ghost of the past
 ride deep in my mind
 things that never last
that we never meant to find

 rewind to a better day
remind of these words at play

 regret never helps, they say
fret over what might and may...

this day is new and cannot be grasped
just lived and loved though it can't last
go into the night and give your love away
step into the day, and hope for the light.

 - Goodbye Jeff.

 I've known your pain,
 and felt your grief.
 I know right now,
 there seems no relief.
 But as time goes by,
 as you know it will,
 the memories fade
 and the wounds do heal.
 I know it's hard
 to stand and fight,
 the dreams, no the nightmares,
 that fill your night.
 But don't give in,
 as many do.
 Hold your ground
 and see it through.
 For at the end,
 when the battles won,
 when the pain is gone
 and the war is done.
 When the dreams come
 only now and again,
 you'll find pride in yourself,
 for you fought to win.

			| | 07/14/2006 11:14:52 AM · #781 | | | Whilst wandering around the Forums I found this thread and thought I'd post a poem here and see if anyone can find a picture that may go with it. Since it was written I have desperately been searching for an image that portrays my feelings but I am still at a loss....can anyone here help??
Two young saplings were planted together
They were young and tender and exposed to the weather.
The place they were planted was windy and chill
The way from then onwards was mostly uphill.

They were blown too and fro in many a gale
One struggling to stand the other hearty and hale
Staying together for all of their life
Supporting each other like husband and wife.

One taller and stronger and quite a bit tough
The other not made of such durable stuff
The taller one spread his branches around
The other content to stay nearer the ground.

Then gradually the strong one lost his fine figure
His partner then mustered up all of her vigour
To hold his frail form, and support his weak frame
While waiting for summer, but it was winter that came.

Then on that sad day when he died away
Parting them both it was then to be found
That most of their growing was alone under ground
Twining their roots each other around
Living so close their roots had grown round each other
Like husband and wife, each with their lover.

The one that was left was near desperation
Finding it hard to endure separation
Never before had she stood alone
Having to carry on living her life on her own.

She could shiver for ever and wither away
But that would not please him that wasn̢۪t his way
So slowly and gently at her own pace
She stretched out her roots in her very own space
Though her branches are bare, her life seems so hollow
Here̢۪s trusting the Lord for some green leaves tomorrow.

 Thanks in advance :o)
