Ack. I hate this. As I was checking my email just a few minutes ago, I heard some rather raucous yelling. It was louder than normal (there are quite a number of families around here that have men that LOVE to yell at their wives), so I looked around to see what I could see. I couldn't actually see anything, but before long, I could hear her telling him to stop hitting her.
I could hear the slaps. (probably in excess of 50 in a 3 minute span)
She did not cry or scream, although she was definitely agitated.
She left the apartment and they have been circling the block for the last 10 minutes screaming at each other at the top of their lungs.
Absolutely insane.
Being a westerner, I find this highly disturbing and wrong. Locals are keeping out of it.
I do not know if I should go down and call the police or what... It may be difficult for me to call the police as I don't actually know if it's illegal. I can get pretty excited at times and it's possible that if I saw him hit her, I could get pretty raucous myself. I have a pretty nasty left-right.
Part of me says I should stay out of it and let it be. I am not a guardian of the world.
But another part of me has real trouble with that callous point of view.

| I have never been in this kind of situation before and, especially if I were in a country where I am only living as a guest, I wouldn't know how I would react. I would probably go with my instincts and react to what my gut says when such a situation arose. I guess this is in Taiwan? |

Yeah, Taiwan. But I think it was a good idea to just stay out of it. It's unlikely that he would do anything harsh in public.
I heard them yelling occasionally for the last hour or so, but they are not around anymore. Sad to say, out of hearing, out of mind... |
