hey you guys/girls,
looking at buying some lighting for my home-studio. i plan on spending about $350-4$450, depending on what i can get for the money. i'd love something that can be used mainly inside, but might possibly be used outside as well. outside is not as important, but would be a plus. (or future upgrade)
any suggestions? i am really into portrait photography, and want something that will go with my setup already:
canon 350d body, hoard of lenses, and my Sigma 500DG Flash. your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks so much.

I Jerowe. I have this. //www.alienbees.com/digi.html It's a little more money that your top budget but these lights are great. I'm on the road to SLC on Tuesday with them -- they are easy to pack and go -- and I just bought the portable power unit so I can use them outdoors. I'll be trying them out for the first time next week.
I'm still honing my skills but I can't imagine any lights I would like better.

Another vote for AlienBees. I'm very happy with mine. IMHO they're the best deal going for studio lighting on a budget.

Paterson Stellar 300Ws kit from b&h - $499. The Stellar 300's are as powerful as the AB800s - so you could save abit more and get teh paterson 150s (like the AB400s). the equivalent AB kit to teh paterson's is $709.
I have the Patersons - good units.

joanns, that package looks great, as does the paterson, Prof fate. w/ the digis, joanns, does it come w/ the power supply? (shows how much i know) do these act as strobes, or are they still lights that are on all the time?
thanks so much for the information. i'm really just now getting into studio lighting, trying to broaden my field a little.
thanks so much, much appreciated.
