One of our local camera shops has a used d70 for $400 CDN bucks.
Just the body with usual stuff. No lens.
Is it worth it and what would be a decent all around lens to pick up with it? |

D70's a great camera. Is it worth it? Depends on how gently used it is. I sold my 18 month old D70 for USD 600 a couple of months ago w/o a lens when I got my D200. Compared to that, it's a very good deal. New D70s cameras are selling retail in the $800-900 range w/ kit lens in US shops.
Since it's used, be careful about dirt on the sensor. Possibly get the shop to pay to have Nikon clean the sensor as part of the deal. And be careful about the connections between the lens and the camera. Make sure they are in good working order ... same for camera in general.
If it doesn't have one, consider an extra battery for the camera ... maybe the shop will discount it for you.
Good luck.

That's about 350 USA dollars. Very good eal IF it's a reliable camera. Will the shop give you a 30-day return option? If so, it's worth a whirl. But any required repairs would likely cost you many weeks of time and a coupole hundred dollars, so... And there was a period of tiem not long ago when the Nikon D70 was causing some really widespread problems that were finally addressed even for out-of-warranty cameras by Nikon, so...
