Hello :)
I'm very new here and still figuring out how everything works. I haven't entered any challenges yet because I'm intimidated by the high quality here. So I thought I would post what I think is my best work to date and see what you all think. Brutal honesty accepted and appreciated. Thanks. (click the link for full size)

not too bad, but not amazing or awe inspiring (qualities that my photo's lack most of the time also)
I'd think it would be roughly a 6 if it met the challenge well, but everything is at the whim of the voters.
I like the composition well enough, but the lines tend to lead a little too much out of the photo, rather than in. Leaves the viewer moving on instead of staying to look.

Nice shot. I would flip it about horizontally: IMO rising diagonals would work better in this shot.
Most voters on this site have no ability to see pictures as a structurall/visual unity. They are mostly looking for *subjects* and *plots*, with absolute sharpness and clarity (both image- and idea-wise). A shot like this is very unlikely to do well in a challenge, unless the challenge explicitly calls for abstract pictures.
On the good side, by entering a challenge you are virtually guarnateed to have around 50 full sized viewings of your shot, and, among the viewers, there will be a few with a keen eye. |
