Please release a new version of the 100-400mm IS as a non-push/pull focus lens modeled after the 70-200mm. Or even a EF-S 100-400mm IS. Thank you!

PS - Or consider licensing Olympus' ultrasonic dust remover. Dust is a pain.

lol
do NOT make that an EF-S lens, there are some of us people that like fullframe and still buy expensive lenses. :)
to minimize dust, buy a second body ;)
and stay out of the desert ;)

Doesn't matter if it's push-pull or not. The issue is the large amount of physical movement of the elements and the amount/force of the air displaced within the cameras mirror box. It's also hard to imagine Canon making a long zoom in EF-S. This would be too limiting.

I would love to see a 100-400mm lens with updated IS. I don't think it has to be a twist zoom lens but it would be alright with me. Similar to the 80-400 OS sigma makes but with faster focusing. EF-S no thanks. I'm pretty sure canon won't release an L lens that's for EF-S only, but who knows. |

Dear Canon,
Our weekend together was magical. Holding your body in my arms was heaven. When you started shooting in burst-mode you rocked my world.
Thanks for a good time.
Love,
Slippy

How about a EF 100-400mm f2.8 L USM and skip the IS?

Dear Canon,
Please send me a 30D and a wide selection of prime glass. I will happily write good reviews on all items sent.

Dear Canon,
My neighbor says Nikon makes better glass. I disagree, but with my lack of example I find it hard to make a good arguement. If you could please send me one copy of each of your lenses in production I will do my utmost to educate these savages.
Thank You,
Dave
PS> Please send a couple 1Ds MkII bodies also.

wow, now that'd be a monster, infact outside of the 1200mm lens it'd be canon's heaviest. |

If I understand the benefits of the EF-s mount (i.e. Closer to the sensor due to smaller mirror and smaller projection circle due to the smaller size of the sensor) should it not be possible to have a LOT lighter & faster long lenses (think 300f2.8+)?
The problem is a lot of pros wanting long lenses for sports and stuff don't use an EF-s compatiable camera (1-series based), so I just don't see the plan for the EF-s mount outside of the non-pro/normal area - which is not the long tele's [yeah, I know not around here but I suspect we are not a good cross sample of the general market].
I would prefer supported access to the firmware API's and some serious development of the software but that's not likely to occur as it would stretch the life of the camera bodies which is not in their interest. |

I would opt for the new 200-500 f4L myself... a bargain at $1,499! |

That was my thought. I just have read tons and tons of comments on immense dust problems with the 100-400mm (regardless of removing the lens...it acts as a billows. Which wasn't a big deal in the film world but is a royal PITA bread in the digital world).
Where as the 70-200mm f/2.8 doesn't have the same affect. Nor the same complaints. And personally, I like IS. If you don't want IS there is always Bigma 50-500mm

even at $1,999 would be nice, and pretty tempting at $2,499 too!

not until they finish the 10-500mm F1.8 L IS lens that is distortion free, about the same size and weight as the 50mm F1.8 and costs less then $500.
I requested that awhile ago and I'm still waiting.
