Thank you everybody for your patience with all my question on which DSLR to get. I think the 30d will work the best for me and give me enough room to grown into without leaving me wanting more. Now I just have to decide where to get it from. I was thinking Butterflyphoto.com They seem to have the best prices that I've seen. $1,374 w/ kit lens!

lets see you saying this same thing again when the 40d or 50d gets released! :p Anyway, body are disposable parts, the lens usually stay throughout your photography interest span.

Butterfly photo is a brooklyn camera store - strike one

The price is about $125 below the prevailing street price - strike two

Pictures of the place are here //donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/
Look under "Acoona" - Butterfly is evidently the DBA

I would look elsewhere

when buying a expensive gear like the 30D, do not only look at the price, you have to consider what kind of service you will be getting from the store.

I can really reccomend B&H, they have very reasonable prices and their service is excellent.

I've bought gear from B&H for over $10.000 and they have always served me with perfect honesty, even when I got a faulty item, since I live in Iceland they just refunded me that item without any proof that it was faulty.

So next month, we'll see your new postings about the problems you're having with that Canon.

Seriously, enjoy!

I think you will enjoy your 30d I just got mine a week ago and have been very pleased over my 20D. I like the spot meter and the larger display. My friend was with his XT at the same game and said that he had serious fps envy when I was shooting compared to the sound coming from his Rebel.
I agree with most people that cameras come and go, lenses should last a lot longer.

Have fun â€Â¦ :)

Hey congrats, the 30D is pretty new so all the prices will be about the same. Anyplace that is really low, I would suspect. Go with a large reputable dealer. I've ordered from bhphotovideo.com, beachcamera.com, and digitalfotoclub.com with good prices and no hassle buying experience.
Beachcamera usually has the best price and shipping.

As for the kit lens, I'd recommend skipping that for a differnt lens. The Sigma's 18-50 f3.5-5.6 seems like a better optical desision for the same price range.

If you can spend a little bit for a general starter lens, then a Sigma 17-70 might be a great option as well.
Good luck

big grins! I was just writing a long PM to you with some sample camera kits and I noticed that you had made a decision.

Patience will pay off in this purchase. Make sure you have the money to do it right.

I COULD have got the camera for 1167 dollars, grey market, on the street here in Taipei, but my friends, my logic and the dealer (who had also just purchased a 30D and was showing it off in the store) all recommended to get the proper merchandise. It cost me an extra 100 dollars US, but they said that it would be a good idea in the long run. Fair enough I figure. I still get the service from buying from a store.

I was lucky enough to be in the store at the right time and sold 1800 dollars worth of camera equipment for them a few days back, so they gave me the best service they could and will probably do so in the future as well.

That new 17-70 looks like a sweet lens and it would go perfectly with the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro. A great couple of starters that will work out fantastically for ya!

I am also thinking of buying 30D. the main reason for me is that 10D has very bad noise at ISO800 and ISO1600 feels like useless. Is 30D good at these ISOs ?

:) Thanks for the tips. Also thank you for the lenses you recommended. That is my weakness now. I don't much anything about lenses. I'll check into the two you mentioned.

Welcome to the antique club, Tim. ;-( It's a sober decision to leave the wallet fat enough for good glass, IMO. And a solid camera it is, too.

Just make sure you buy from an AUTHORIZED CANON DEALER! Canon makes fantastic gear but when u make millions and millions of products some bad ones do slip by. I had to return my first 30D for a noisy and blurry CMOS sensor. My second 30D is awesome!! My confidence in Canon is back in full effect!

Thanks. I am also working on checking my 30D out to see if it is sharp enough. It seems to be. I don't have much of a reference though. Maybe I will start a thread on it.

Thanks alot. I think I'm going to get it from B&H though. They have the "Bill Me Later" thing where I have 90 days to pay and they just send me a bill. That will work better for me. I can get a couple lenses and then just pay it off before the 90 days.
