Not to spoil everyone's chrome/not chrome whining, but chromium is a key element in the creation of stainless steel. And art is subjective. Seriously, what can you think of that fits the literal definition of "chrome" that isn't a hubcab, a bumper, or a stray kitchen appliance? How completely uninteresting would that make this challenge? Give people credit for being slightly more creative than that, even if they have to bend the theme a little to do it.

If it was silver in color I assumed it was chrome. Glad to know that steel has some chrome in it, but I didn't count off for that anyway. I think I only noted one as a DNMC, and that was the jumper.

Edit: Actually, I looked at my votes again and there were a few that didn't look like chrome. What can I say, my mind is very foggy this week!

I didn't differentiate as long as it was silver & shiny, but how is photographing a hubcap or a bumper being less creative?

We are all entitled to our own views on the subject.... if you want to give leeway/bend the theme/give credit for creativity... thats your right, as is the right of others to interperet it differently from you...

It's not giving "leeway" Sunniee.

Chromium is used to harden steel, to manufacture stainless steel, and to form many useful alloys.

Alloy is metal.

So chances are if it's a shiny metal it has Chromium in it!

But there is this stuff called Hard Chrome which is usually a Mat Finish so if its a pic of somthing that is hard chrome and you vote it down because its not shiny thats wrong too.

Go figure huh?

Trust me.......you are not alone in noticing that. Lord... forget about stainless - vis - chrome.... it would seem some people don't know the difference between chrome and brass and pewter and magnesium....and the list goes on.....

Not a good challenge theme, IMO. Nothing really creative. There are some good images in there but not one that says "wow" look at that chrome.

Edit to add: Those that are in the challenge don't take this the wrong way. I tried shooting some stuff and well I couldn't do anything creative either.

Because it's the first place everyone's mind goes and the most readily available subject. In a challenge like this you need to think outside the box. Like in Jump, 90% were the photographer's kids jumping in the backyard. Or in Texture, where every other photo was tree bark. After awhile I get very annoyed by the complete lack of original thought. Chrome is much the same way.

Challenge topics don't limit creativity (as Rubber Ducky proved). The limit is imposed by our own imaginations.

No worries, mine is too. I have a feeling people are marking it low because it's *gasp!* stainless steel rather than a hub cab - a lot of why I'm so defensive about it today. The photo is a lot better than the paltry 4.5 it's getting at the moment.

yeah - not complaining just twisting words around ;}

Seems it must not be a very high scoring challenge.

There is no use complaining about imagination or lack of it. These three comments on my Jump-shot say it all:

1. Sorry, but I don't see any jumping here. As for composition, I think the poles get in the way.
2. Excellent take on the challange topic. I would have appreciated this in B&W, the play of light and shadow would have come over much nicer. You captured some interestin patterns here.
3. Brilliant shot. I guess you're screwed when you force the voters to use imagination.

And the challenge description was: Jumping is both a physical and a metaphorical act. Capture some type of jump for this week's challenge.

Maybe the word metaphorical is too difficult. ;-/

I was happier when I was at 5.8, but still not complaining. I'll take the 10 comments and 1 Favorite!

I am so disappointed that there is such a lot of "stainless steel" and even aluminium as well, in this chrome challenge.....
I enjoyed some of the chrome image and marked them with the score thay deserved. I do hope the winners are chrome, as thats what the challenge is.....

I'm glad I received 5 comments, this being my first entry in a challenge. The comments are mostly supportive, though I didn't think the image was a very succesfull illustration of the idea I had...
My score is 5.2183 - does this mean something like the 100th place? :):):)

I'm hovering just under 6 and hope it gets up (just over) 6 before this is done! A few minutes ago, my score was 5.95 something, but now it's at 5.8945, and going down :-(

As for if it's chrome or not - I think so, but I'll admit having to Google the difference between chrome and stainless steel. This is definitely chrome, but maybe not prominent enough. We'll see how it goes tomorrow morning!
