Hello all,

Just wanted to let you all know. My submission in Jump challenge has been disqualified. I got this email:

We regret to inform you that your submission to the Jump challenge ("Vertigo") has been disqualified for the following reason:

The use of effects filters (excluding Noise and Gaussian Blur) is not permitted in Basic Editing. Please review the challenge submission rules.

Your entry has been reviewed by the Site Council and/or Administrators, who have confirmed that your submission must be disqualified.

Thank you for your continued participation in DPChallenge, and please do not let this deter you from submitting photographs for future challenges!

I just wanted to point out that the Jump challenge is under Advanced Editing rules, which my submission is absolutly according to rules. Now how would you feel about this? Something not right here. I feel cheated.

Errare humanum est...

This is not the right place to expose this , send directly an email to the SC and explain what has happened.

Marvin,

We have a drop-down menu that pre-fills the most common reasons for DQ into our emails. It looks like we selected the wrong option when we sent the email. The correct reason should have been the Major Elements rule.

This has been corrected, and you should receive a new email with the correct reason.

Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Thank god for that! ;)
I do not really care, not that good image, I was surprised to see the reasons and still am for I regarded that I was following the below rule:

Filters: At your discretion, you may apply filters to your photo, in whole or part. (Be aware that extensively altering the "look" of your photograph with an "effects" filter is often not well received by voters.)

I also like to point out that I have sent in a photo with similar filters without getting it disqualified. Now that is inconsistency.
Maybe I am missing something here?

The rule under which you were disqulified was: "using any editing tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not permitted."

In this case, we consider the illusion of motion created by the zoom blur a major element, since no such illusion of motion was present or implied in the original. We have allowed this in other cases where the motion WAS present or implied in the original.

Who are going where? I did not bring up any motion blur, if you are addressing me in the first place. This is Radial Blur that got my submission disqualified.

Blur seems to be a hot topic around here that gets a few people going because certian shots were not dq'ed for nearly the same thing.

Yeah the problem people have is the selective enforcement and since there is no statue of limitations when it comes to DQs those other entries that are also guilty but still aren't DQed just fans the flames further.

I feel that this rule is in a gray area. Some get dq others not. Maybe it depends on the mood of the reviewer that day, dont know. But it certainly needs better clarifycation. And it is simple really. Blur use is allowed in Advanced Editing or not.
This photo I sent was not one of my best so I am reliefed that it got dq, but it could have been a high scoring photo. Than it would be a shame it would have been dq by some blurry blurring rule.

Radial blur claims another victim...!

This effect seems to be a common cause of advanced editing DQ's - It should probably be called out in the Advanced ruleset as 'not allowed'

"Take your hand off the mouse and step away from the filters." Just Say No! Nope! Aint gonna do it!
