Please could people attack / critique this picture.

Comments in challenge haven't helped me work out why this flopped. Only 'nice image' and 'priceless expression'

I'm paranoid that my photos are looking flat or something on others monitors......but I'm sure there are many other reasons why this has done badly! Flame away.....

many thanks
Keith

It didn't flop...wait till you really flop and then you'll know about it:)

For me it's well executed but hasn't got the wow factor to hold attention I should know I have produced many such images;) Your score was good.

I think it's a good action shot and framed well. The #1 reason I would score it a bit lower is it is not tack sharp. I would have given it a 6.

The shot did not flop. You don't flop till you get over 15 comments saying the shot is too dark. Not that I would know ;)

Thank you both for your comments, I agree 'flop' was an exaggeration.

I still think I have some problems with producing vivid dynamic colour as the pictures that I've entered to date have done much better when void of colour or very basis 2 tone images.

I think it's a great action shot, with great expressions on the player's faces...the thing that lets it down is the softness/blurriness. was it a hand held telephoto? Also, a little saturation will lift it and make it jump...perhaps play with the levels as well. (We are talking photoshop here...)

Actually, I would say it's a handheld blur issue here, because I have the lens you used for the shot for my Nikon D200, and it is tack sharp.

Your ss is high enough that I don't think it is a camera shake issue. It looks like the focus is just a little behind them. (The grass behind them looks a little sharper than the atheletes.) It is easy to miss focus a little when shooting at f/5 and your subjects are moving. I agree with the pps that the lack of sharpness in your subjects hurt this image. It is a great capture.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

It is good getting these sorts of comments. It definitely trains the eye better.

I'll concentrate on tack sharp focus and upping the sat a little (I did do it on this shot but it probably could have taken a little more)

many thanks
Keith
