I don't know much about black swans but they are not really rare, I've seen many in Norfolk (UK)

Hi Hanae. I don't know how rare they are, but I do see more white ones than black ones. There were two black swans in the zoo at Inokashira Koen by our house in Japan, but I haven't seen any since moving back to California.
Hope you guys are doing great in England!

Good capture. They are not rare here in Australia but they are quite shy in the wild other then the ones that have been hand fed in parks.
They come in hundreds on the lakes I live by

I took this shot about three hours ago with a 70 -200 L USM and this is about how close they let you get to them. Lovely birds.

Hey, Marac! I just saw your reply there.
I've just been hiding out right here in San Francisco. We're having our first sunny weather in about 2 months, so I'm spending as much time as possible outdoors.
Glad you guys are settling in well in the UK. I see you've got Hanae saying "innit" already, which I'm sure makes you very proud. ;-)

Some can be found at the San Antonio zoo as well. The pair there has at least one fuzzy gray young'un, too. |

Yep, the black swan is the emblem for Western Australia. They are widespread throughout Australia, and now around the world. I saw a pair in Naoetsu, Japan, quite a few years ago - it must have been breeding season because they got very cranky if you got too close. I also saw some in Gorky Park in Moscow. |
