5 images stitched together by hand, in my rush I missed the overlap between 2 shots.

I don't think I did too badly considering I was on top of a hill and 400mm hand held at 1.50 sec!

I did the colour matching quickly using levels and just resized in CS from 150mb down to 200k, the image looks much better on my pc viewed large.

Thanks Dan ;)

I am currently wondering if I should sell it! I had been thinking of buying a 2x converter to go on my new baby (70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM) However, reading up on the 2x recently I'm beginning to think I should keep it.

IMHO its a great buy and I've had some excellent results from it. My problem is my eyes and I don't trust my manual focus skills when used with the 1.4 converter and without time to set up a shot. Its not cheap but if you have the dosh you should seriously consider it. Oh, and don't listen to the push/pull ctitiques, i think its a great motion ;)

Off topic slightly, but I've been using a 2x TC with the 70-200 and I can see a real drop-off in quality. If you can afford to keep both, then the 100-400 should be much better at 400mm f/5.6 than the 70-200 with TC. Also, shouldn't you be able to AF using the 100-400 with the 1.4 (at least using the centre AF point) on a 1D?

Guess all these posts are (slightly) off topic. I've not had the 100-400 with 1.4 on the 1D yet as I tend to keep it on the 20D. Maybe I should work this out? 20D + 100-400 + 1.4 with 1.6 crop = 896 equiv, the 1D with 100-400 + 1.4 with 1.3 crop = 728 equiv. Big difference.

oh well...guess I'll be the first to say no way you hand held five shots at 400mm at 1/50 second. Did you have the camera resting on something?

lol, I wondered how long it would take ;) I was (honestly) stood on top of a hill with a strongish wind and crouched for some shelter from a rock to fire off the shots.

David, my sincere apologies to you!

I've gone back over the images and your right! When I picked up the exif data I had several windows open. IN FACT, the shot above was 5 hand held shots at 1/400 AND at 100mm not the 400mm as stated, I'll leave the thread details as they are and edit the shot info.

Nice spot ;)

This is the shot I took the exif data from (about 5 yards from the panorama shoot). 400mm 1/50 F/10 100ISO

No problem brother...we've all done it. The pano is sweet, and that 400mm 1/50 sec. one is good too -- really good for being hand-held. I've hand-held some pretty slow shutterspeed stuff before, so I know that 1/50 400mm is possible when you're standing right..just that it's near impossible to get like five in a row...good shots.
