I answered an ad from a D70 owner who was looking for some lessons on photography and help with his camera.
He originally asked for someone familiar with his camera. I told him that I own a Canon 20D, but that they are very similar after all.
So ARE there any differences that I need to know about? Anything peculiar to that camera that may not be obvious to me?
I have downloaded the manual, just point me in the right direction, please.
Thanks for your help. |

The controls are in different places but the functionality is basically the same. I doubt you'll have a whole lot of problem adapting. |

nah you should be good...just don't get his hopes up on burst speeds heh...3 fps doesn't equal 5 fps heh.
For all the down low stuff that is easy to miss in the manual -- go to //www.dpreview.com or //www.steves-digicams.com and read through either of their reviews, they really cover stuff in-depth.
Also point him to //www.kenrockwell.com -- while he is a bit contraversial as far as some people are concerned, there is a ton of good information on his site related to both the d70, and more lately, the d200, and everything else Nikon as far as lens comparisons and tests, flashes, modes, metering, tips and so on...heck, the guy even put his d70 in a freezer overnight to test its AF speed while frozen and battery life.

Speaking of the d70, what's the diff between the 70 and 70s? |

a bigger LCD screen on the back and the d70s has a plug on it for a remote cable...whereas on the d70 you'd have to use an infrared type for a remote shutter.

Don't forget spot metering!
I use this 95% of the time.

I'm glad nobody came up with major differences, but I have taken note of the ones that were mentioned.
Now I'll go check out the links.
Thanks everybody for your input. |

So true. Sorry to say it nikon fans but, after shooting sports and learning the difference between 3 and 5 fps, I wish I would have gone with a 20d. Also I had no idea the d70 could sync to 1/500. Thats awesome and I'm definetly gonna take advantage of that in the school studio. |

What's the difference between:
A) ISO 200 1/500 flash sync
B) ISO 100 1/250 flash sync
Just curious...Because to me it doesn't seem like it's a real advantage...although you can easily stick tape over your hot shoe and shoot with the flash on manual at like 1/3000 if you wanted to.

the other major diffrence is that with the D70 you can use its pop-up flash as a commander for other flashes. the 20D has to have another flash component to operate in that way.

If youre shooting skateboarding with 3 flashes and battling the midday sun for the right flash exposure, an extra stop of helps every bit.
