Finally found an eagle's nest but can't get close enough for my range.
The returning eagles are in a protected area. It's been said that they have three in their nest. Pretty exciting to see...if you've got a good set of binoculars or a BIG lens. I'm starting to research lenses again.
Any recommendations? New extender (1.4) purchase just isn't enough.

100-400L
about 20% of the full frame
crop of this:
Just sold one of the cheetah face 8X10...
Beautiful clear sharp lens...
Heavy for a long day but I support it with a monopod.
BTW - the 100-400 will get you up to about 640mm on 1.6X crop

If it's that misty, you may have other issues to face than just getting a longer lens. You might actually need to get closer... |

Those look great, Courtenay! I'll be checking on that lens for sure. Thanks!
Keiran, I couldn't get any closer. There's an 8 foot chainlink fence all the way around. Federally protected and enforced.
This shot was taken in the evening with cloud cover.
When I go back it'll be in the morning. Supposedly, the male and female switch nest duties and I'd love to see that. :) |

Does Sigma make a Bigma for Canon? My brother got one for his Nikons, and he has been taking some great pics with it. |

I believe there is one available for all dSLR , unfortunately finding them for certain brands are currently very difficult :( |

//dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=1223 or //dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=548. I believe one is older and the other is optimized for digital or something.

Yes, Sigma does make the Bigma for Canon. I have one myself and love it.
Check out my portfolio to see pics I took recently of a coyote with it.
I also have other pics here and there in my portfolio from the same lens.
The lens itself is heavy - 4.1 pounds. You'll want to use a monopod or tripod with it. The ones I shot of the coyote I had the lens resting in my hand, and my hand resting on a deck rail. They turned out good, but would have been even crisper had I used the tripod.
