...check out a couple of sweet swine!

We went on a day trip to Amish country today, and I thought I'd share these piggy pics.

Comments are always welcome!

Happy Easter!

Mmmmm.... Ham....

Left you some words.

Wow, this is a new one to me. I have never heard of Easter being associated with ham before.

Chicks, rabbits, flowers, assorted Fertility Goddess symbols, some cross-over Christian objects, but never pigs or hams.

Is this just a traditional food thing or am I missing something?

Thanks. So I guess it is just tradition rather than anything specifically related to the holiday.

Your pig really does look like a walking ham... Wow.

Personally, I always thought of ham&egss as a breakfast food.

Oh..., you expect me to believe that HAM comes from some magical animal called a swine.

Next, you'll probly tell me bacon, and pork chops come this magical animal as well.

Thanks God we have reasonable people that believe in a rabbit that travels to christian only homes and delivers colored eggs, and chocolates.

Whiskey all around.

I have had ham on Easter for as long as I can remember.

Is there an Easter steak or turkey?

We're frying a turkey tomorrow. It has been basically the only discussion we've had in our home and with my parents for the last month or so. We've never tried deep frying one, so this will be an experiment.

Everyone in the family has been reading up on the whole process on the web; about 25% of all Google traffic this week was the result of my family looking for keywords "turkey frying."

I sure hope it turns out well, and that the hours and hours of research will justify the end result!

This scares me from ever trying.

According to Allstate Insurance, 15 people a year successfully burn their houses down attempting this.

I went to a gathering with one of these last year -- pretty impressive. If you don't have a crank/winch arrangement on the fryer, the person who lowers the turkey into the vat of hot oil needs a lot of patience and Popeye-like forearms ... I should try and find my pictures of the operation.

umm the oil is the flammable material that causes the problems. I cannot emphasis enough...PUT THE TURKEY IN SLOWLY!!! It may appear to be dry but it will have moisture and that makes the oil spill over and hit the open flame. I use a two person method, we both hold an end of a broom stick and slowly lower the turkey, and remove quickly if it looks like it is bubbling too much.

and if done right you will fall in love with it and want it all the time.

Honestly, we're not morons :)

Everything went off without a hitch, without a single 9-1-1 call. Turned out quite nicely!
