After asking a few people, I've come to discover that some are of the opinion that a portrait is a depiction of a subject from the shoulders up... similar I guess to what you might get from Sears or Wallmart. It got me wondering how many feel this way and if they do, will it effect how they score. I'm surprised that this question hasn't come up yet so I kinda feel like I'm potentially stirring the pot a bit. Not my intention... :) |

To me, from the examples I have seen, it seems that portraits cannot be full body. The emphasis seems to be the face for the most part.
Where are those professional portrait photograpehers out there???
kiwiness? nasti? cindi? hello? |

I'm here :) Tomorrow is my shoot. Nasti already has a killer portrait done, blah blah :)
I think anything from the waist up counts as a portrait. Portrait doesn't only mean a head shot, although here in DPC the more you see other than the head the lower you will be voted. Sad but true. |

Http://photos1.blogger.com/hello/113/9210/800/Apr7-Studio.jpg This is my home studio in my basement. Clamp lights on PVC pipe, backdrop dyed myself - but it works!

I'm not a pro, but I've gotten portraits from studios here with full body shots that are really cute. I would think a studio portrait is any picture that shows a person, or pet for that matter, lit in a studio, whether it's close up, 3/4 shot, or full body shot.
Which doesn't necessarily mean that people here at DPC will vote that way Ü |

Does a studio picture have to be indoors? I took an outdoor picture today that I'm very pleased with. |

Studio shots are usually indoors as far as I know. Outside studios are something new for me :)

In portrait? Hahahahaha! Ya right! This is YOUR territory remember? Not mine. Now if I finish within 20 spots within you and above a 6 then I will be content ;) But as my prior portraits have attested, I simply SUCK! LOL! :) |

Got mine done, entered and am very happy with it. Don't care how this one does because getting it was most the fun, created a lot of fun memories today for everyone involved! ;)

Sonifo's "Dainty Gem" took blue in the first color portrait challenge and that was full body. I'm guessing if it looks great it'll probably do well.

I'm in as well. Maybe the best photo I've ever taken.
I had a blast. It was hard to choose, but thise one is my absolute fav. I tweaked it and it's waiting for rollover. Any predictions as to how many entries ??
I'm guessing... um.. 203

Rikki, I feel your pain, but after browsing your contest entries, I would love to have half the skill you have (with or without the equipment). These shots of yours were great:
Deja Vu II
Free Study IX
Image Grain
Color Portrait

I think this will be a fun challenge to vote on. Up to 99 so far. I'm guessing we'll end up with 175.

Thanks. But I think all of those except Tribute and Image Grain were poorly shot ;) Thanks for the vote of confidence though ;)
