Its a decent score AND I got a favorite which makes it a winner in my book.

I've noticed a definite upswing in my favorites received this year. I never used to get favorited on my entries but of the 12 challenges I've entered this year, 6 entries garnered at least one favorite! Not an extravagant amount (especially compared to some) but its an amazing thing for me.

Woo!

Somebody Please Leave Comments!!!!!!!!! I'm sitting on a 4.48 and only two comments. What am I doing wrong? I joined this site to get better and that isn't going to happen if I don't know what is wrong with the picture.

Mary, you have to hang in there. No one knows which shot is yours, and nor should you tell us at this point.

Let us know after the challenge and we can make some comments then perhaps. Feel free to PM me and I can have a look. I am sure others will do the same.

Also, the best way to learn is to critique as many shots as you can yourself. That's what I have found has helped me.

Hmmm, I hope to at least break the six barrier... my "Candid II" did better.

Entering two Challenges won't do the trick. Keep entering and pay for a membership where you can discuss images in your portfolio. That'll do it. Cheers!

My candid is all what you said...so you voted me a 10, right?

;-)

While it isnt a bad score, I am disappointed as it has all the elements in my mind that a good candid should have. I had thought this would score in the upper 6's. It is truly a candid and very emotive. Composotion and lighting are fine too.

Almost hesitant to post as I don't want to jinx myself. This is my best so far, and a record for comments. Only one misunderstood so far. Here it is.....(drum roll)......

Still probably not a ribbon. All 7s and 8s here lately. Damned overachievers. Thanks for the votes all!

Has anybody analyzed voting trends here? I started out really strong, dropped, then had a great Thursday. Yesterday I had a lot of high and low votes. Today I've been dropping like a rock. I'm now down to 5.3722. Strange how it goes. I have 8 comments and they are definately appreciated.

For those of you out there that keep updating to calculate votes, is there any interest in a program to automatically calculate votes and possible combinations? For example, if you know that two votes averaged 6, it would spit out all possibles, such as 6 & 6, 5 & 7, etc. I've been toying with the writing one for a couple of weeks and I might just do it if there's enough interest.

Seriously, you need to chill out about this. It was a *SUGGESTION*, and I did NOT penalize the shot for the lighting. Would you rather I have said nothing at all?

I'm not trying to come off as a jerk but c'mon, this is a photo challenge. You should welcome criticism/comments to your photos, not scoff at it.

Rikki-Without question the voting has been odd. I'm usually up 2/10's from where I was on day two of voting but it seems like I gain major ground and lose it right back. I assume part of it's the animal entry/voters who are pissed about their scores and getting revenge?

What goes around comes around....I guess?

I think I've picked out the Blue winner but haven't seen Red, Yellow, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 yet.

I hope your wrong about this. I mean come on, were not little children there is no need to have a tantrum. But I guess some people are like that.

"Revenge" may have been a bit extreme but maybe not.

I do believe that people vote lower when they're angry about the votes they're receiving. We're only human and it's only natural that if you believe you've entered a great image, that's performing lower than you've expected that you will become a dash jaded or less generous with your voting scale.

perhaps, but the watch word for voting should be 'Objectivity' it's vital to be as objective as one can during the voting porcess. obvioulsy no-one is completely obbjective, but some attempt at it should be made.

While there may a handful of voters who do revenge voting, I do not think that that could explain the large fluctuations in score. Instead I think it is just different viewpoints of what candid is. For example a well composed, well constructed image of a child in a clown suit smiling at the camera may rate to two voters in different ways. i.e. Ohhh he's so cute and the shot is so well taken... 10; or... Well taken shot but it is not candid... 4

What do you reckon?
