If an author of a fictional story can fabricate the truth to make a great book...
....and ANY government, being a state, or a department, or a bereau can fictionalize a story to be the truth...
...then what is TRUTH?

OK, if this is so, then is the local, or even the national news the truth when presented?
Is Catcher In The Rye a study on halve truths?
When Prez. Bush said "We found WMD in Iraq" was he convinced of the truth?
Will truth make you free? or more insecure?
The truth be known, is a hard pill to swallow.

In Orwell's 1984, truth is "created" by destroying all evidence to the contrary.

"Truth" is such a nebulous term, Brother Horse. It's "true" that California is west of Massachusetts, but if I go east far enough from here I'll eventually fetch up in California. In fact, someone just pointed out that Alaska straddles the Date Line, so it is BOTH the westernmost and easternmost state in the USA.
Faced with such conundrums, how can one trust the truth to be true? The very mind boggles, and we ain't even into quantum mechanics yet.

Yes, I agree Brother Bear with your thoughts.
But, if 1+1=2, and we can agree that it is true because years of schooling has taught us this to be true.
Then, is it also true that A=B+C because the government says so?
Did Igaq need to be invaded to protect the American way? or our interest? or was it for the greater good of man kind? Which is true?
The truth is out there.

This seems like a very valid definition of today's "truth".

Truth = df "that which is believed to be true"
I propose that there is a distinction between "truth" and "accuracy". As an example: the flight of an arrow can be true, but not accurate. Yet an arrow striking its target was accurate but not necessarily true in flight.
"Truth" in its most basic form (read Plato's world of absolutes) includes accuracy. Accuracy however, is not necessarily known, until some future time.
Therefore, "Truth" entails both accuracy and time, however, neither is required.
Hope this clears it up.

All three are true, depending on your perspective of the events. It is hard to determine what is and is not true, in my eyes of course.
See, in my eyes, freedom spawns peace, in others it creates violence.
All of the people of this world should be free. So what is being free?
It is not what the government says that counts. It is what the people say that counts. The government will be changed, yet the people will still be there. What is great about the opinions on the war is being in a free society we can snivel and whine about everything we want.
Thats is what we fight for! The right to complain!
Should we push this on other countries? That is the debate I guess.
Lets let Iran get the bomb, blow up there neighbors, threaten the free world. Or maybe they just want the power to light up there country? Once they have the bomb it is too late at that time!
The people of Iran, in general are a very western in nature. Who knows what is going to happened in that part of the world. They have been at war for so long they know nothing else. |
