(If there even is such a thing...)

When you are compiling a portraiture portfolio for prospective customers/clients to look through, what is the etiquette on including self-portraits?

What is the average "acceptable" number of photos, poses, different models, etc.?

What format do you think is both professional looking, yet not intimidating?

Having never actually seen a professional portfolio in person, I'm kind of at a loss... Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Depends....

Mesmeraj had some unbelievable self-shots.

i wouldn't include but one, maybe two, self-portraits. you are producing a collection that should show how you capture others, not yourself.

if you really want to do it nicely, mypublisher has a 9x12 20 page hardback book that's only $30, and if you can find a coupon, they have a buy-one-get-one-free deal going now. you could nicely fit 30-50 images in one of those, showing all types of poses, lighting situations, environments, etc.

thanks skiprow. I'd take you up on the book offer, but I just spent my "allowance" on improving my lighting situation! :)

anybody else have any input on this?
