I'm looking for a script that will refresh the cache of internet explorer when a web page is loaded. I'm using a Macromedia Flash object to display a slideshow, but after a visitor has been there once, if I change the object (adding / removing photos) then when the visitor returns again they still see the old flash presentation because it cached.

I would like a script that refreshes the cache for my page on loading the page.

See my site if you'd like: //www.samchadwickphoto.com

Did you try holding Shift while you click the Refresh button in the toolbar?

That's only helpful if he is trying to flush his own cache.

I'd take a look at this code example. Be sure to remove the line as this will have your page reloading every 5 seconds.

Hopefully that works for you.

Try using the following script in your tags:

The problem is that this is form your standard HTML page, and these meta tags are often not honored by some browsers. Also the first tag above does not work with Internet Explorer 5 and in other browsers it may still be cached in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Microsoft has a suggestion (resolution) on their Web site.

And an old favorite of mine - HTMLGoodies - has a link on their site too.

My own solution:

Use ASP or PHP - there are several scripts you can run to get this to work seamlessly across multiple platforms and browsers.

EDIT: Jonathan - you beat me to it :)

Add a url parameter to the page url, it will make the browser think its a new page and prevent it from caching the content
example: //www.mywibsite.com/mypage.htm?page=1&action=12345

you can make the value for the action part of the parameter random so the browser will se this page as unique each time it is loaded
