I thank D&L for increasing our portfolio from 10mb to 25mb but I am faced with the fact that I can only upload about two or three more pictures before I have to start deleting some. I don̢۪t want to delete any favorites and find it hard to delete the ones with comments. So I was wondering if a rating system may make it easier to delete the photographs that may not be of much interest to others. Let me explain.
I would like to see a 1-5 star rating below every profile picture. And when people view the picture they can rate the photo according to their taste by clicking 1,2,3,4, or 5 stars and be anonymous. They can still leave comments and their name would show up beside the comment.
By doing this it would make it easier to delete photographs that are not of much interest to people that has viewed and rated it. If you had a photograph that had an average rating of 2-½ it would be easier to make a decision to delete it than a photograph with a 4-½ rating.
What do you think?

Everybody should go to Scotts' profile and comment or choose a favorite from his portfolio :p |

Perhaps a better way to deduce which ones are liked would be to keep the ones with the most comments, favorites, and views, and go down from there.
You could also consider compressing your images more to make room for more pictures. I know of a lot of people that have fit much more than 55 pictures in their portfolio.
I use a file size of about 120k and I've only used about 8 mb of my portfolio space. I have 72 pictures in my portfolio, NOT counting my challenge entries.

I really like the idea! I could rate while browsing. I don't fave every image I like and it's another way to know which photos appeal to people. |

Recompress, yes. If you're bumping the limit with 55 photos, you're taking up about 450k per photo. Do keep to the 640px size, and compress to what each image will allow. Highly detailed images should be close to 150k, but smooth, low-detail imges can be compressed to 100k or even a little less.
You can replace an image with a resized, recompressed version without losing any favorites. In this way, you have your cake and eat it too.

Sorry for not mentioning it. I have a lot more than 55 photos in my profile (145 total). I just have them hidden for the moment as I decide which ones to delete. The 55 are mostly been picked as fav's. So I know I didn't want to delete them.
I save my profile pictures @ 150k. I let PS CS limit my portfolio pictures to the 150k.

I'm sure this has been discussed before... How difficult would it be to offer a storage upgrade for members? I'm guessing there might be enough members willing to shell out a few extra bucks for another 25mb or so.

Had too many PM's concerning no longer commenting or choosing any more portfolio pics as a fav due to having to dump pics to make room for new stuff. Even at 100k, and nearly everything having comments or favs, I still ran out of space. My favs would be well over 1k had I not, but wouldn't have room for anything new. Make room & hurt feelings or have a stagnant portfolio and nowhere to add new ones.
I basically quit the portfolio uploads since. |

I'd love to be able to pay for additional space. Like "Sepia Member" (old photos, get it *ha ha*) could pay extra and would receive 100mb.
And yes, the $1,000/year "Stone Engraving" membership receives 1gig of space. *lol* |

I think the rating system will serve as another learning experience here at DPC. With people having less time to comment could leave a virtual comment in the form of how much they like the photograph. The photographer could take the "STAR RATING" feedback and try to improve the picture by retake or different editing. It's way better than seeing your picture has been viewed 50 time and no comment or input at all.

Although, we could be running the risk of a whole new set of threads ... "Someone just rated a photo in my portfolio a 1 and did not leave a comment ... " :)

you are right :0P those will never end!!!
I still really like the star rating idea although I have quite a few images in my portfolio that are before and after type stuff that may be linked in with some of the learning threads. that would be neat to see the differences too... |
