I can't seem to find how:

To requestest validation on a photo that will be entered in a current challenge....

....or if/how you can request a validation for a photo that is already in the voting process.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

For the first, go to the site "help" menu and "contact" to send a ticket with your file attached.

For the second, go to the challenge page where all entries are displayed as thumbnails. Your entry will be at the bottom. Click it and scroll down. There will be a "request validation" or some such link there.
