In the world of DPC, I am a serial post killer. Questions I ask go unanswered, comments I make are ignored, and threads I participate in have that uncomfortable silence after any post of mine.

This isn't a rant or a whine, I am honestly wondering what I can do to improve my posting style so that I'm not as abrasive or untouchable as I currently seem to be.

Maybe the screen name needs a change, daring to use the word Jesus (in any context) seems to be taboo. It was a nickname given in jest by friends, I can part with it if the nazarene reference is the root of these problems.

Enlighten me!

maybe it is because you play with nikon toys rather than canon toys. lol.

i think maybe there is a bit of warming that people inevitably must allow prior to arriving at any real conversing between people.

it seems that there are several people that are friends with each other ant those people tend to post and be responded to a bit more.

by the way, i have the same trouble. but i think it is just newness not any sort of harshness or anything.

oh yeah, i personally think your nic is ok.

You call a mere 13 thread kills serial ... you have a ways to go, my friend : )

The "best" way to get a response to a post is to ask a simple, direct question, preferably on a photography-related subject.

Or post something about Jesus ...

You've only killed 13 threads - chicken feed in the grand scheme of things.

Besides which, killing a post isn't always a bad thing. Very often it means you gave such a good answer, that there was no need to ask/discuss further.

Play warrior and be proud of every kill :-)

nah .. it's because you are from Alberta :P

Nothing wrong with Albertans! haha
And you can't complain too loudly, you're pretty much gauranteed praise if you walk around here with a name like Ralph (we might even make you a king!).

I once worked with a man named Jesus, but you would have to be under 5 feet two inches to be shorter than he was! He was a darned good engineer, too!

maybe in order to be qualified as a cool poster (not like a print on a wall poster), you have to use a signiature for your posts. you are more important ifn you use a signiature. lol.

ima begin to think of a really cool signiature so i can be important too. ;)

I think it's perfectly feasible that the nickname itself causes a fair number of people not to care about responding to your posts. One way to find out is to change it to something less potentially offensive :-)

For the record, it doesn't "bother" me, but I've often wondered WHY someone would name himself is such a strange, and even socially aggressive, way...

you have no idea how glad i'll be when he out of office
(was esp. bad for the two years i lived in Edm. .. yeeesh... )

The best way to get responses to a thread are either to say something that's offensive to a. a group of people or b. someone easily rage-induced or to ask some inane question (see what are you eating thread). But a quick scan of your recent "kills" looks like you have a tendency to post later at night and the site just isn't as busy then so maybe the threads get lost by morning. Sometimes it takes a bump or two to get a response.

But I like your username and I hope you don't change it. It makes me laugh.

I wouldn't worry about it at all........as a matter of fact I don't... particularly when I consider the fact that unless things change, I will have managed to kill 5 threads today alone.

I never thought myself a killer....boo hoo hoo.

Ray

Edited to add........this one has a potential for number six.

Hey ShorterThanJesus, I used to arm wrestle Jesus on Thursday nights in Philly.
He was a crafty son of a - well, son of God. He was shorter than me and I'm a good bit stronger, physically, - he's tougher, though.

So I would ALWAYS have the back of his hand almost pinned after a few seconds, and then he would look at me and smile, then wink to his 'posse'.

With all my might I would try to pin him, and he would keep on smiling.
He then would forgive me. Which baffled me.

What people don't know is that Jesus talks some trash too, "You know who I am? Do you? I'm the Son of God, dude. You hear me? You know what else...?"
Me: *grunting* "What."
JC: "...I am God's Right Hand." *SLAM!*
JC wins.

He's 4-0 against me.

(ShorterThanJesus, this is an example of what NOT to do when posting...this is not a good post at all)

I'll have to agree there. If I had more time I would one-up it with my story of when I battled Jesus in Wrestlemania 3.

Change your username to "SmarterThanMuhammed" and see what happens... ;-)

Jesus off the Top Rope is one of my favorite all-time moves.

I wouldn't worry too much about it...the majority of my posts go unresponded to or acknowledged.

Sorry to burst your bubble there, but a bunch of people - including myself - have those stupid signatures turned OFF.
I am very grateful that I am not forced to look at them.

I noticed in the beginning when I posted I had fewer replies or my posts would get skipped over and people would post like I wasn't there. I think a certain amount of name familiarity lends itself to replying. Wade into other people's posts more. The more you give, the more you'll get. I recognize your name, but can't say I've seen a post in the last few weeks at least of yours. That doesn't mean you haven't done it, but you haven't done it enough for me to happen to see one.

This often happens when you quote someone's post. While you are writing, someone else is responding to another's post. They may post their response just before you do, making the responses seem out of order -- that's one reason you see so many "I type too slow" comments in re-edited posts.

That's probably the case for the community as a whole but that doesn't say much for everyone when "status" is the qualifier to respond/acknowledge someone's post.
