Dang, General, one MORE thing we have in common... I'm a 4th-generation native San Diegan, I emigrated to the Cape a handful of years ago. Whereabouts you from? I used to hang out at UCSC all the time, way back in the day, also. If you're anywhere near as old as me, maybe we ran into each other? jejejeâ¢

I was there Fall/70 to Spring/72 -- spent almost all my time at what was then College V (now Porter College), and most of that in the dining hall, or at the ping-pong or pool tables.
I probably learned more useful information from the guy who managed the food service as any three professors put together, and my dorm Residence Assistant -- a fellow named 'Erick Ivanhoe (yes, with an apostrophe) -- probably surpassed that for demonstrating uncompromising practicality. Maybe my most famous acquaintence there was David Arora, who went on to publish several books on wild mushrooms.
I keep meaning to go back there someday ... |

I'm trying to learn as much about this pretty quick as I plan on taking one soon, but I want to learn a little before I try. So is the general idea to meter for a little bit to the side of the sun?

These are lovely! Really beautiful. I too notice that a sunset shot - or any shot for that matter needs to be composed with a strong composition. A pic of a waterfall is just a waterfall, but set the scene with some foreground, middleground and waterfall and it becomes something else entirely.
