Thought I would help remind people that using back-up isn't a bad idea. This past week I lost all my shots on iphoto..i have no idea how, but my kids use the computer so anything is possible...
I had saved all my pre 2006 shots on my external drive I only recently purchased, but hadn't gotten around to this year's shots..
So what happens..I lose them the week I find myself in contention for a ribbon for the first time..luckily I got my shots back via data rescue (YES!!!)..
then it turns out that I did indeed win a ribbon..only the way my shots came out in with data rescue I had no idea which was the original..i had copied it..and sent in the wrong file, and found out next day that I still had to send in the original (I had sent the wrong one in)..and of course i was working late that night..i rushed in the morning and sent in a couple of files hoping somehow I hadn't screwed up and that data rescue hadn't altered them and really just thought how ridiculous a situation i had put myself in..
in the end i managed to send in the right file and didn't get DQ'd..and i have my shots back..
BUT I WON"T FORGET TO USE BACK-UP AGAIN!

I know backing up on CD's or DVD's can be a pain but that's why I do it. I started about a year ago backing them up. If I would have when I purchased my first digital camera I could of entered the "Best of 2002" but those pictures are gone. Yes, I have a few CD's full of pictures :)

I have started doing this a bit too..my problem is I don't feel like saving a day's shots or a week's if there aren't many..so I wait until a have enough for a cd..and then forget..at least the external drive is right there, just have to get in the habit..

then again I lose my keys a lot too..

this might be a good trick for you workflow wise. The second I get my photos back I burn it. That way I always have my original files. I mark it with a (1) (meaning burned once) On that CD or DVD I also burn an older folder which I have photoshopped and whatever I wanted & previosly burned the originals. I can throw out that folder becaiuse then I have two copies of everything on different disks.

.. wow I hope that made sense :0)
