I didn't enter Macro-Abstract on a last minute decision. I liked this, but I didn't want to be distracted by scores that week, so I decided against.
This is not manipulated other than "relatively normal" RAW processing and playing with vibrance/saturation a bit during the conversion. I won't explain exactly how I did it yet, but after it's up for a while, if someone's interested, I will.
What do you think? Comments appreciated.

You shouldve submitted it. Even if it doesnt do well, who cares, right? Its just a statistic on DPC. By the way, I love the shot. The only thing that buggs me a little about it is the noise. |

I love this shot...an abstract with superb colour, line and form. I don't think that the noise hurts it at all...well done..lovely image. |

Since it has all those colors and DPC voters go crazy over that you should have definitely entered it.

Thank you all for your comments. That's very helpful, as while I know what I like in abstracts, it makes me happier when others like it as well. (And of course it's equally important for me to know when I have a "dud".)
Before I desccribe the setup I have a correction--I posted that image while busily doing some other things and my memory lapsed a bit. The image was color shifted towards green in PS, and the grain was added for effect(apparently a mistake from the comments). I liked the original colors, but was playing with them in PS just to see what I could get, and I liked the effect of the green shift more than the original. I forgot that I had done that whem posting.
The setup for this was a very short drinking glass that's octogonal, with a lavender quartz/crystal rock in it, and filled with water. Camera was on a tripod, with several extension tubes, and the glass was on a CD-ROM. The room was fairly dark. I used a white led flashlight to bring out the colors in the CD and used a reflector from behind to add some additional rear side lighting. (It helps to use the self timer for this--I was out of hands!)
What you see crossing the photo is of course the edge of the glass. The shallow DOF from the extension tubes and the 50mm lens helps create the colorful abstraction.
Here's the more "mundane" output of the RAW converter. While I liked those colors, and the clarity, I always try additional things.
In fact, this was only one of about 20 different experiments I had done--all for a challenge I decided not to submit to. But in reality, that didn't bother me, since I love doing abstracts, and I still have many shots to go throough and see if I have any other keepers.
Thank you again, very much, for taking the time to let me know what you think!
