okay, man I have screwed up big time.
Here is the deal. I worked about 20 hours on this photo . I saved it and then thought, hey... I should share this with my DPC friends. So I resized it and saved it as a jpeg then clicked the "x" to close it... intending to say "no" when it asked me if I wanted to save the photoshop file...
I think you can see where this is going, I accidentally clicked (let my pen touch my wacom tablet) over the "yes" and now my image is saved in a very small size. It was actually a composite of three different photos, and it took me a very long time to get it right. I really don't want to start over. I have re-opened the file and it is indeed too small. is there any way of recovering an old save file or something like that in photoshop once the image has been closed? or do I have to start all over?

PS. I know I should always work on a "COPY" of the image, I just got sloppy okay. you know you do it too. I just got burned this time :)

ouch, that sucks first thoughts is no there is no way to recover it. But before you quit photoshop or restart your computer you may want to do some looking in google, if you dont do any more photoshop work for now, maybe thier is a temp file for photoshop somewhere. But my guess is if there is its invisible meaning you would need to do some reasearch.

right on.
thanks. I have realized that I did everything else right. I created multiple layers for each pic that I used, and used a layer mask to "delete" the parts that didn't merge correctly. So... except for the dodging and burning, I think I might be able to recreate it. It just sucks, so if someone knows a quicker way, please let me know.

So you originally saved it as psd, then re-opened it and saved it as jpeg? If that's the case, it should still be in the folder you saved it because you selected "no." If you had selected "yes" then it would be the smaller size. I always save as psd and then save as a resized jpeg, and when I close it I select "no" and the psd is untouched. Check your folder again for it. Hope you find it.
Edit: Nevermind. Sorry, I read your post to fast and missed the "intending" part.

Did you save it in PS format (with the layers/masks) or flatten it to a final JPEG?
If the former, you may be able to streamline the recovery process by upsizing this one to match the size of the originals, and then copying the channels and adjustments to the new master file.

There are ways to recovery delteted file records, but most likely the HD wrote over that ID withing the table rather than writing a whole new record. Some of the data will be there, because the old file was obviously larger, but the remainder will have the little file written over it.
So, yeah, you can get a file recovery program and find out for sure, but theres a 99% chance it be gone.
Save, save, save some more. Sucks to be you dude. (skulks off to backup his pics.)

I just wanted to say thanks for those that posted. I have re-created the file, and I think it is better now. I have found some stuff that I didn't see before. Thanks again for your help.
